Maybe because he's homegrown but personally I far prefer to see Mason in the starting lineup than Paulinho who IMHO just not have the drive or personality this key position requires.

yes Paulinhos do but he plays the ball backwards and safe a lot, he also saunters around the pitch while mason is everywhere 100 miles an hour putting in tackles and being a nuisance. Mason plays at a far higher tempo and takes more risks with his passing. He also has a firery/nasty side as well which we need.
