How about we look at the refs performance over the past 10 years instead?

Old Trafford went almost 10 years WITHOUT HAVING A SINGLE PEN SCORED AGAINST Man Utd.

Our team has a spine. Corky is a solid as it gets so I have no idea where you think these unshakable robot minds come from? No one is immune the mind games. I've seen German heads drop and Argentinian hard men go missing because of shit like this.

17th March 2007 is not ten years.

You want me put that in bold and in capitals, as if that makes the point more valid

If you read my posts clearly you will see that I have said that Webb had a bad day, I've not disputed that at all.

My point (again, I'll put it in bold and capitals if you want) is that we lost 5-2, not 1-0 because of the penalty decision. We were as poor in the second half as Webb was throughout the game.

Ah the irony.

"Most notably there was an incredible 10 year run – from December 1993 to April 2004 – when not a single penalty was scored against United in a Premier League match at Old Trafford."

Maybe I should invent mega chicken bold to get my point across?

I think complaining about a ref that pretty much put a stake through the heart of our keeper, who has put his blunder past behind him, is better than "moving on".

Now that Webb has out and out admitted he was wrong what happens next ?

Fuck all. Again.

And the glorious red devils taint the Premier League again also.

Yes Man Yoo did score 4 more after the pen. Had that pen not been given who is to say we wouldn't have gone up the other end and make it 3-0. It's all irrelevant now obviously but that decision in my mind changed the game big time. Just hope the boys forget about it and go out and beat WBA this weekend

Now that Webb has admitted his "mistake" wouldn't it be nice if them skanky MU loving journos held their hands up too after saying it WAS a peno.

Like that is gonna happen, eh ?

I'll be checking the papers tomorrow online and sling in a few truths.

Let me get this straight. We got a dodgy penalty against us , 2 dubious yellow cards , they got away with a number of bad tackles. Against that we got away with a red card offence. The argument is that therefore Webb fixed the match and this all had such a profound effect on our boys that they quite justifiably gave up. We have a number of experienced players in our team- King, Woodgate, Corluka,Jenas, Keane , Modric and Bent. They all were overcome with despair at our misfortune. A lot of people have said "the penalty changed the game " even though we were still winning 2-1. And the pressure was too much for us.
Forgive me but were we playing for anything apart from the outside chance of 7th place ? Wasn't it a great occasion to give it a go for 90 minutes not just 45 ? It's a good job we were not still in the relegation zone or else we would really have felt the pressure. No I'm sorry those excuses don't wash - it was not the pressure or the Old Trafford conspiracy or the irresistable red tide. It was lack of bottle that was what led to the humiliation of 5 goals in 20 minutes much to the amusement of the nation.

i don't think we gave up at all, i think we panicked and lost our heads, which led to a domino-like collapse in our defending. we don't have the pace in our backline to get away with losing our composure and anticipation and reading of the game.

we have a few experienced heads in our team, but compared to the United players it's nothing, and even they came pretty damn close to bottling the title after amassing a big lead earlier this season. liverpool have bottled it, villa have bottled it, and those are very good teams. moreover we haven't had the time to really forge a strong team spirit yet, leaving individual players on their own psychologically to fend for themselves under pressure.

i don't care if the rest of the country finds it amusing, every team gets laughed at from time to time - the only thing that matters now is our response. if our players have any backbone at all, now's the time to prove it.

webb screwed us big time - not just the pen - but a whole host of other homer decisions

I'm not saying he's corrupt

I am saying there's institutional corruption against us when we play man u - the litany of injustice against us over the years is long and shameful

We don't, we rise above it and show some class by letting it go (besides, he has already been awarded the cup final anyway).

He made a mistake for their first goal, our players made mistakes for the other four. We lost, it's in the past, we need to channel our energies to the remaining games of the season and move on.

As penalty decisions go it was nowhere near as bad as the one given against Robbo in Seville and arguably had he got every decision correct we'd have still lost 5-2 as Wilson would have been sent off.

Normally I'd agree. Ref's have a tough job and are bound to make the odd mistake.

But that **** webb fucked us over good and proper. He's a spineless cheating wanker of the highest order and should be stripped smeared in excrament and dangled by his bollocks from an old trafford cross bar.*

Seriously guys that ref was blatantly trying to let utd win... He booked 2 of our player for innocuous challenges while allowing Utd to get away with Murder... Then the penalty decision was ridiculous... It took Scholes 3 tackles all which have should have earned him a yellow to get booked, and alarmingly Ronaldo stayed on the field too... He tried everything in his power to turn the tide in Utd's favour and lets face it, it worked... How he can continue to refree after such a disgustingly bias display is beyond me....

http://www.setanta.com//uk/Articles/Football/2009/04/28/Prem-Poll-on-Football-Matters/gnid-50540/

Graham Poll has told Setanta’s Football Matters show that he believes Howard Webb was looking to make ‘a big call’ on Saturday after he was given the FA Cup final.
While Tottenham were leading Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford, Webb gave a controversial second-half penalty that sparked a United comeback which eventually resulted in a 5-2 win.
And Poll, who retired in 2007, believes that the ‘curse of the cup final’ was to blame for his decision.
“At the same stage last season, Mike Dean refereed the Newcastle-Sunderland game in the week in which he found out he’d the FA Cup final,” he told Football Matters.
“He gives a very controversial penalty against Danny Higginbotham for handball.
“Deano, I know, was a little bit surprised that he’d given that. He knows it was a touchy call.
“I believe this is the curse of the cup final.
“In 2000, I refereed Portsmouth-West Brom the week I was told I’d got the cup final.
“I gave a dreadful penalty for Portsmouth, the home team, and I know Rob Styles did the same for Middlesbrough-Fulham when he got the cup final.
“Howard Webb found out just this week that he’d got the cup final and I think what you do is you think, ‘I’ve got to prove I’m the best referee’ and you look for a big call.
“It’s the wrong thing to do and I think Howard’s looked for a big call – nothing to do with favouring Man United, nothing to do with the situation in the game.”
Poll feels that Webb had instantly realised he had made the wrong decision and hopes it does not affect his confidence for the coming weeks.
“He was struggling to see – looking through players,” he said.
“Gomes got a good hand on the ball, which is why it diverts so far away.
“The interesting thing for me is that Howard Webb, when he knows he’s got something right, is very strong in his body language – very strong indeed.
“After the decision, he was walking away, getting away from that area. The players, he knows, are incensed.
“As a referee, you have that feeling that you got it wrong in that situation.
“We talk about players cheating and diving, but there’s a sense of justice with players. I think Howard Webb, with that body motion, shows that he knows that he got it wrong.”
He added: “You can see Gomes is horrified at the decision. You can’t always go on that judgment, but I think, on that situation, that Howard knows.
“He turns, he walks away. It’s that feeling of ‘get me out of here’.
“I just hope Howard can get back to refereeing as he has done, because he is our best referee.
“He’s our best hope. He’s our World Cup referee we hope for next year and a decision like that won’t help his confidence.
“We talk about players’ confidence – referees go on confidence and Howard’s got a Uefa Cup semi-final on Thursday night.
“He needs to be at his very best in that situation.”

The thing that gets me is if he did know at that point that he'd made a mistake is why allow the penalty to be taken? The bigger thing to do would admit the mistake and restart with a dropball.

exactly blue rooster

the second he gives the pen, you can tell he knows he's called it wrong -

all he has to do is run over over to the lino - have some sort of a conversation - the lino obviously tells him at the very least there is reasonable doubt (ie no pen) - realistically he say howard that's a wrong 'un mate-

he nods vigorously - a bit of ham theatrics - cancels the call - and we're away again

does he do this? no - does he *** us up a treat? - yes

terrible terriblle refereeing

Just watch Gomes' reaction after the save, he gets up and back towards his goal, not a hint of guilt for a foul. As for Webbs body language, it was apparent he knew it wasn't a penalty, but the alternative of an earful from Fergie and the plastics was obviously too muchto take.

The other side to this is that every football fan, player, manager & officials (apart from Man U's) would give him a standing ovation. He could have proved that he is our top ref and worthy of a cup final. Plus it could have taken the wind out if Utd's sails on the day and maybe we would have gone on and got another one or two.

The common theme from ManU fans and other assorted idiots is that they scored 4 good goals after that "non-penalty"

Nobody knows what would have or could have happened after that, Carrick, Scholes Ronaldo or Rooney may have been sent off as their tempers got the better of them, we could have nicked another - Its a lottery with the dice loaded for the Man U camp.

The press sweep aside all the mitigating circumstances and once again blow hard and fast about Man U and the top four in general being oh so fucking great.
