Hull City v Tottenham preview

Marney out for Tigers as Spurs prepare to rest King

Hull City will be looking to bounce back from an agonising defeat to Chelsea when they take on a Tottenham side that made a winning start to the season.
Phil Brown's Tigers produced a spirited performance at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and took the lead through Stephen Hunt before a Didier Drogba double clinched a 2-1 win for the Blues.
Drogba's second goal came deep into stoppage time but Brown could still take plenty of positives from the clash and will now be desperate for his men to pick up three points in their opening home game of 2009/10.
Brown will have to make at least one change after Dean Marney picked up a knee problem against Chelsea which is expected to sideline him for a couple of weeks.
USA striker Jozy Altidore is again unlikely to make his debut as his return from last week's international duty continues to be held up by red tape.
Forward Craig Fagan is not yet back in full training after a hernia operation in the summer, while Jimmy Bullard is a long-term absentee.
The Tigers also confirmed this week that Ian Ashbee had suffered a setback in his recovery from a posterior cruciate ligament injury and may not return for another nine months.
Tottenham news

Tottenham will be hoping to build on their impressive 2-1 victory over title hopefuls Liverpool at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
The result gave Harry Redknapp's men more points from one game than they achieved from their first eight last season.
They will be confident of claiming another success at the KC Stadium against a side they beat 3-0 less than weeks ago in the Asia Trophy.
Ledley King's troublesome knee means he is unlikely to play for a second time in a week, so Vedran Corluka could move across to centre-back with either Alan Hutton or Kyle Naughton slotting in at right-back.
Jonathan Woodgate (groin) and Michael Dawson (Achilles) are still out, while Gareth Bale is also missing with a foot problem and Jermaine Jenas (calf) is doubtful.
Redknapp opted for Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe up front against Liverpool but may decide to tinker with his strike-force and bring in either Peter Crouch or Roman Pavlyuchenko.

MATCH PREVIEW
After victory over Liverpool, Tottenham travel to the KC Stadium hoping to make it two wins from their opening two matches - a feat they have only managed once in the past 14 years.

Harry Redknapp's side made the perfect start with a physical yet efficient display, and demonstrated how much of a threat to the top four they could be.
Before Redknapp's arrival last October, Spurs suffered their worst opening to a top-flight campaign, so he will be keen to maintain some early momentum.
Despite a late defeat to Chelsea, Phil Brown's stubborn Hull side will take plenty of heart from their display away from home.

Their form on the road last season was far better than at the KC Stadium and after gaining just three points from a possible 30, Brown knows his side must start well in front of their own fans.
Hull's hopes were dealt a blow with the announcement that captain Ian Ashbee will be out for up to nine months after a setback with his recovery from a knee injury.

I'm usually very very pessimistic about us playing physical sides, every set piece the enemy does i always think thats it, theres the goal. But somehow, and i dont know why im really confident today, i have a sneaky feeling we will win by a 3 goal margine, with palacios opening his score record and win me my bet :)

I'm going tonight. I got a ticket courtesy of some of Spurs allocation being returned. Apparently only 1600 tickets were taken up which is piss poor, even though it is a four hour trip from London and a night kick off.

We've all learned by now that it would be oh so typical of Spurs to come off the back of beating Liverpool and get done 1-0 by Hull. For me the key is keeping that standard of workrate off the ball that we show against the big teams when going to places like Wigan, Hull, Burnley etc. For me, if we match the oppositions effort then our quality will show through, even in tough games.

31 Years Ago Today…

Nottingham Forest 1 Spurs 1

Newly promoted Spurs had to play champions Forest on the opening day. The game marked the start of a new era, the League debuts of the Argentinean Internationals, Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa. Demand for tickets was immense; Spurs had created an excitement that was unbelievable and the kick off had to be delayed to allow everyone into the ground. Many people were waiting for them to fail, ‘they wouldn’t be able to adapt to English football’ being a familiar comment. However, while it took time for them to establish themselves, Ricky Villa had the perfect start scoring late in the first half to equalise for Spurs and earn a deserved point. a good performance could make up for a poor result, though obviously i'd love the 3 points! they'll be physical and will at least put in more effort than pool did, which should be good preparation for the spammers' cup final at the weekend.

I think we could get all 3 points there. I don't think King will be able to play as it is too soon after the Liverpool game, so like suggested above move Corluke into a CB position with Hutton as RB. If KPB has been impressing and work hard in the training field and changed his attitude (according to rumours), then I think it should be fair to reward him for his hard work with a place in the starting 11. So I think

Gomez

Hutton - Corluka - Bassong - BAE

Lennon - KPB - Palacious - Modric

Pav - Keane

Would give us a good chance against them. I wasn't impressed with the Lank when he came on, so I think Pav should start up front with Keane.

Subs: Cudicini, Naughton, Huds, O'hara, Defoe, The Lank, Rose

Gomes

Hutton Corluka Bassong Ekotto

Lennon Hudd Palacios Modric

Keane Crouch

Think Harry will go with that, though I'd prefer Defoe and Pav.

"In form"

They've played one game, which they lost.

And by "always hard to beat at the start of the season", you mean last season? Because other than the first three months of last season, their Premiership performances have been dreadful.

We should be going up there with every intention of walking away with a win.

I recon pav will play this game. Starting is a different story. Pav is the only one not to play Yet. Keane and Defoe Started, Lamp post came on 2nd half.
I would like to see

Gomes
Hutton/Naughton Charlie Bassong BAE
Lennon Palacios Thuuuuudd Modric
Pav Defoe

but its most likely Keane and Crouch to start.

Keane should play without doubt if fit, his away record is better than any of the other 3 strikers.

Hutton will play over Naughton as his experience and height will be key. Without him we'll be quite a small side.

I think it will be much closer than some think and hope we come away with the win.
