I started supporting Spurs "properly" in '96, not awfully long ago compared to some of the old farts on here, but I'll tell you something...If you're depressed about spurs right now you must have been borderline suicidal during the majority of the last 20 years.

We've been good for the last 10 years. It's the 10 years before that which were a bit Vega.

"When again will we see Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool all finish outside the top four",

When did we last see Liverpool in the top 4?
That was the point when I scrolled down to the comments section...

We'll see at the end of the season if we finish 5th whether most people will be just happy punching above their weight, I think not.

Depressed about spurs? Why? I don't get it.

Guys- it's not that these are the worst times ever- it's just that I was so excited (think: kid at Christmas) about us in the Champions League- ESPECIALLY given our group- that I had marked off every game night (and potential game night) and made sure I was free and/or made plans to see the match. I am/was CL obsessed- and my love for Tottenham- combined with the fact that we were finally back in that damn competition- saw me unable to stop thinking/dreaming about those European nights. I even got permission from my boss to go to Europe (from my home in New York City) to see us play mid-week when/if we had a game in February. Now we do but it's against the third place team in Belgium.

So yeah, I'm depressed- if only because I was expecting so much more. And yes I get that this isn't the worst we've ever had it; I've been a supporter for 15 years. I said I was down- which I am, simply because my expectation level after last season was so high. I didn't say I was suicidal.

Also, I'm down because I feel that by spending badly in the summer (50 million Pounds on two fucking stiffs) we missed our chance to really make our mark, and instead have settled back into what we are: the 5th/6th best team in England. Had we bought a difference maker I think that we could be sitting at- or near- the top of the table.

So the depression is more about what could've been then what is.

Lastly, the response was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, basically just saying that at this point I'd take being patronized over nothing. I didn't realize the word "depression" would strike such a chord; I guess people aren't used to hyperbole and exaggeration on this board.

Self inflicted :D TBF whatever the word is (i'm guessing 'disappointed') Spurs didn't do that to you and if its taken you 15 years to learn the angst that can come from supporting us, they didn't do that to you either.

If Spurs can let you down they generally will..........Just take deep breaths and learn one (very) important phrase....."fucking hell Tottenham" :p

*sighs:(

Totally agree with that article. Pretty much sums up how I think about Spurs.

Always the optimist I'm taking heart from the fact that we are still in touch despite not really clicking like last season and having suffered a few key injuries.

I think we miss Lamela and we need to keep Dembele fit for more than a couple if games at a time. Coys!

I was born in the 80s and have been a Spurs fan my whole life, so my experience of us has always been that we are pretty mediocre and occasionally above average. In the 90s finishing anywhere in the top 10 was deemed a successful season for us, let alone a spot in Europe. When things started to get good in the 00's we as fans were desperate for European football in any form, and some of the nights in the Europa League back then were some of the best atmosphere's i've seen at the Lane. We are now in an envious position to be fighting for top 4 every season and it's easy to forget that bigger clubs than us have been relegated or at least fighting for it, whilst we've gone from strength to strength.

It's frustrating when we don't perform as well as we could but I try and keep a sense of realism about where we are, and this article is bang on when it says we are punching above our weight. Assuming Levy & Co stay in charge once the new stadium has opened, I can see us getting even more competitive with the big boys around us over the next decade. Until then i'm trying to enjoy where we are, and that for the first time in my life against all the odds we are genuine contenders for titles.
