Rafael van der Vaart has insisted that he never treated joining Tottenham Hotspur from Real Madrid as a step down in his career and always gave his all for Spurs during his time at the club.

I don’t think I ever saw a performance of his and doubted he was giving his all. Always seemed he loved being here

I read the Athletic article/interview from last night about him. He still loves Tottenham and regrets leaving the club. I hated seeing him go. He was someone that always gave 100% and you knew he was going to show up for every game. Funny part of his interview when he said he could not play like players today. He was watching van Dijk after he won the CL with Liverpool and the Dutch announcer asked if he would celebrate with some wine, VvD said "no we have a Nations league match in 5 days" van der Vaart said he would have been pissed by the time the interview started on so much wine!

I've regretted so many players leaving us over the years, but there have only been a few that I've actively missed. Le Gin still tops the list for me, but VdV is also one of the others.
