I just found this really old article regarding Bale on the Daily Mail, apologies in advance if this has been linked before, but some of the comments at the bottom really made me chuckle.

Spurs flop Gareth could Bale out in January as Birmingham boss Alex McLeish eyes £3m defender

Forgotten: Bale is down the pecking order at Spurs
Alex McLeish is lining up a move for Tottenham defender Gareth Bale when the transfer window opens in January.
Birmingham manager McLeish will have around £40million at his disposal following Carson Yeung's takeover and, according to the Daily Mirror, will spend £3m on the Spurs left-back.
Wales international Bale has had a torrid time since arriving at White Hart Lane from Southampton two years ago and has made just one start in the Premier League this season.
Rangers striker Kris Boyd, Celtic winger Aiden McGeady and Sporting Gijon's Michel have also been linked with moves to St Andrew's.

LOL They paid £10 million for that gimp! Only Sp*rs could waste that kind of money. Maybe they should take Wenger's perspective on left backs and grow their own like Gibbs, Cole, Traore. Or purchase young bargains like Silvinho, Clichy for peanuts. But probably not, more money than sense that club.

I've often wondered what would have happened to Bale had BAE not got injured in January 2010. I know he was on the verge of going to Forest on loan, but had he not played for us again that season would we have cut our losses and cashed in on him in the Summer of 2010? Going from potentially being loaned out to a Championship team to scoring a hat-trick at one of the biggest stadiums in Europe in just 11 months is unbelievable. Well done to him!

I honestly don't know why we ever thought of selling him (if we ever did). He had a run where we didn't win quite a few games whilst he was a kid, so? We were hardly world beaters back then were we? I thought he looked a very good player the whole time we've had him. He has certainly exceeded my expectations though and Harry does deserve credit for helping him find some confidence. We're talkling about a young man who was seriosuly self-conscious and needed an arm aroudn his shoulder.

Don't believe the hype. Everybody just jumps on the band wagon.

Good point and if that had happened I wonder if his talent would have shone through in the end or it would have been a hammer blow to his confidence and would never recover.

Well, he's a gooner, so wouldn't surprise me if he still holds the same opinion, we all know how stupid they are!

A gooner at work thinks Bale has only ever had one good game in a Spurs shirt.

Good point. I also always wondered the same about Aaron Lennon, when we bought him he was supposed to be back up to Wayne Routledge, but Routledge got injured in either the first or second game of the season in his first season with us, Lennon took his place and has never looked back.

If BAE hadn't got injured then he would have gone to ACN which he had planned. Bale was going to play no matter what. It's only Tribal Football that said he was going to Forest on loan.

Oh yea lots of goals under Jol.
He scored three goals, and we played him on the left wing under Jol in fact. One against, fulham, one against Arsenal and another one I can't remember. He was playing well and one of the bright sparks of that season, unfortunately injury against birmingham had him out for the rest of the season after October.

I definitely felt it was more luck than judgement, even at the time. Not that it matters. TBF to Harry I thought he did a great job with Modric by using him on the left until he got used to the Prem.
