I see what you're saying, he'll get some credit, but it will be Capello who gets most of it, and rightly so. He has the England team organised, and playing with a purpose, scoring a lot of goals.
Edit - Just seen your second post.
Ye he might, but I reckon Wenger, maybe Ferguson will get it. They've been around for so long, and have had a good few English players, lately. Well, Wenger hasn't actually, but Fergie has.
I suppose it depends how their trial periods in DFS pan out...I mean harry looks pretty comfy, he's probably got more padding, but you can't deny Italian leather is a luxurious touch that can't be ignored.
I think he means that if England become World Champions, i.e. win the world cup (which he believes is highly unlikely) does Harry Redknapp deserve some credit for it since he has helped some of the players who may make a big impact.
I guess it all depends on what happens between now and winning the World Cup (in this scenario). If for example Lennon and Defoe continue to improve and play with confidence during the season and break into the England first XI for the entire WC, Defoe going on to be golden boot and Lennon destroying the spirits of full backs from all corners of the globe, then maybe.
If he can keep King fit and have him playing in the World Cup, that would be an achievement too.
I don't see how it would make him any more deserving of credit than any other club manager. At the end of the day a lot of countries can have great players (and England have had good sides in the past) and yet they go on to do badly (and look at Argentina). With so many countries able to win the World Cup this time round and no team really looking head and shoulders compared to the rest I would say all the praise if we did win would go to the players and Capello.
Managers dont always get enough credit for what they have done for players careers to be honest. But also the coaches. I'm sure Defoe would thank Ferdinand if he makes the World Cup squad for example. But i think theres a big difference between the credit given behind closed doors within a club, and all the media and fans on the outside. By that i mean, Harry would no doubt get a lot of credit within the Club for what he has done with the English lads. But i dont think Harry would get much of a mention outside the club for it to be honest. It would mostly be Capello and the players.
But football is all about having a team. Not just the players and coaches, but the entire club. Thats what harry worked on when he arrived at Spurs. With everyone from the tea lady to the goalkeeper coach, he has made the spirit high at Spurs. And these things have a big chain reaction throughout a club, and can then transfer to the International teams aswell. Lennon is on fire with Spurs, and he carried that over to the International games. No doubt Harry will get praise from Spurs for getting the best out of him. And i'm sure he'll get a mention for it if Lennon, Defoe or anymore of our players help England win the World Cup. But it will only fill a couple of column inches. Most praise will come from within the Club though.
I wonder how many Spurs players will actually be in the England squad for the World Cup. At the moment, Defoe looks a certainty, unless Owen suddenly rediscovers his goalscoring form, but Lennon will face stiff competition from the likes of Walcott, Cole, Downing, SWP, Young, Milner and Beckham for a place. I would have thought that fit-again Cole and Walcott would be definites with the other 6 battling for just two places. I would take Lennon, but I don't think it certain that Capello will.
Crouch seems to be behind Heskey and Carlton Cole in the pecking order. I suspect King is too much of a risk and only the most biased Spurs fans would think that Jenas or Huddlestone will make the trip.
So it may be only 1 or 2 Spurs players in the squad and they would not necessarily be starters. On that basis, I can't see Harry getting much credit.
