I'm gonna be really hacked off! The thought of him playing against us makes me wanna cry a little!

But if Utd offer Madrid £120m, can they really turn it down?

Why would Real Madrid need 120 million? Realistically speaking they don't need the money do they, what would they do with it that they can't already do? Ronaldo is going to be 30 sooner rather than later and Bale will pick up the mantle as Ronnie drops back. Then Bale will come back to us and we will win the league etc.

They are richer than United.

Maybe Bale would like to come back to the UK and views MU as a good opportunity to achieve this and build on his world star status. I agree it would be incredibly upsetting to see him play for another premiership side.

Aside from the fact he's scoring plenty, enjoying his football and has clearly established himself in the side, so it's very unlikely that Madrid are looking to sell and would almost entirely be United just offering an un-turn-downable sum to start this ball rolling, it would still require Bale to sign - it's something almost everyone seems to forget with regards to players who are under contract - just because their club agrees a transfer fee, it doesn't mean the player has to agree and sign, they can quite as easily say no, thank you, i'm happy here and will see out my contract for a while longer, at least.

IF United can clear the funds for a bid that large, and remain inside the FFP rules, it would almost certainly require them to move on a few players to balance the books a bit, so who? Would have to be some pretty big names to make a dent in £120m, but i don't think they have anyone in their squad worth 8 figures who they can afford to let go, AND they need to bring in some defensive players quite rapidly too - i don't see that it's an option for them and remain inside the FFP guidelines. Would it work if a sponsor put forward the money/a large chunk of it?

He's already rejected them once. Why would he have changed his mind all of a sudden? I just think it's UTD trying to do some serious tapping up like Real Madrid did with us and because UTDs ego is still so big they think it will unsettle the player. Bale is happy at RM and you can see that by his performances and the fact he is playing with the best player in the world. Why would he take a huge backwards step to a team that won't even qualify for CL football this season.

United's transfer tactics do make me laugh though - last year they came out and said they had shit loads to spend, instantly meaning any offer they made would come back with a request for £10m more on top, as all the selling clubs now knew they were minted and desperate.

This year they tout around that they have £120m to blow on one player. If he turns them down, once again, all the selling clubs know they can rinse United because it's there to be spent.

Very, very strange way of conducting business.

Yes.
They can afford too, he's doing well at Madrid I don't see why he want to leave.

if he ever wants to be in contention to win a ballon d'or then he should leave. personal adulation doesn't seem to be a big motivation for him though so i suspect he's happy just playing for the biggest club in the world and winning trophies. the weather's good too.

Why can't he win the Ballon D'or at RM? Ronaldo turns 30 next year and will slowly start stepping down so it's only a matter of time until he does.

i don't think ronaldo will start slowing down for a while yet. even when he eventually does, it's still all about him and bale will be nearing 30 himself, he's basically used as a glorified lackey. he's being used from the right of a 442 where he's expected to work back all game while ronaldo gets a free pass, his primary task is to feed ronaldo, that's never going to get him into contention for an individual award. as zlatan ibrahimovic would say, he's a ferrari being driven like a fiat.

It could happen....Bale could want return to the PL. Bale could want to play under Giggs and LvG. Bale's SO may not want to live in Madrid. Bale and his SO could want to raise their kid closer to their families....the may be any number of reasons that might make him consider moving to United.

But in all honesty it probably won't. Bale loved Real as a kid. Bale is playing well for the biggest team on the planet and Real have more money than they know what to do with which is how they are able to continually bring in the most expensive players in around without batting an eye....to Real, being able to say that have Bale in their lineup and the prestige that grants them in the world is more valuable than £120m.

They do really want De Gea though and there is a chance it could be part of a swap + money deal next year in the summer IF Bale decides he wants to go, which I can't see happening.

I was thinking a few weeks back, "what would make me quit football?"

This.

This would make me quit football.

Okay, another point. If he were to leave and he was true to his word that he'd wanna come back here, is there anyway the board would pay the going rate for him? Not a chance in hell in my book!

It all comes down to if Real push him. I know we're all asking "why would they do that?" But they're weird like that, they've gotten rid of some excellent players.

If they were to sayin "actually, we overpaid for you anyway, if we can get £120m we'll take it" then United makes sense as a club Bale could go to.
