... do you think Modric will still want to move?

Without looking too far ahead or getting ahead of ourselves, we have every chance to battle Chelsea all the way to 3rd, along with 'Pool and Arsenal. So, if we are above Chelsea at the turn of the year, can you a) Chelsea bidding for him again, and b) Modric still wanting to leave.

He seems happy enough in his football at the moment, and why not? We're unbeaten in 7 and in 5th with a game in hand!

I can see him ending up at Man Utd. Can see them making a big bid in January to try and keep their fans happy and keep track with City.

i agree. really depends on what levy is going to do but i get the feeling whatever he'll do won't be enough.

This.

There is zero chance of him leaving in January.

And this.

It's that simple really. He wants more money, but he's signed a lengthy contract so Levy won't entertain any bids.

I really can't see him being with us next season though. Even if we finished third I fully expect him to leave.

If we turned down bids in the summer, there is not a chance in hell that Levy will accept one for Modric in January. If we lose every game from now until January, then possibly, but we won't. Even if Chelsea offered 50m, if Spurs are where I suspect they'll be (Battling for 3rd), there is no point accepting it.

Luka has already shown that even if he doesn't get his wish, he'll get his head down and play. If we can get Champs League this year and offer the guy a good raise in the summer, I think he'll stay.

If we're above Chelsea in January I think we should put in derisory but unsettling bids for Mata, Cole and Drogba, and if we're also above Manchester United bids perhaps for Vidic, Nani and Rooney.

I'd draw the line at bidding for Van Rapist if we're above the Goons.

Hard to believe he would want to leave if he continues to look as happy as he did today...

This sums it up for me. I think he wanted to leave for the money, and still will want to go in January. However I'm sure we will keep him until the summer when he will kick up another almighty fuss

Exactly...IMHO.

I agree...but he's kinda made a rod for his own back, as well - all that talk of being able to fulfill his footballing ambitions with us, and then denying he wanted the move for more money. It means if we are looking like we can achieve at the level to fulfill his footballing ambitions, he is either going to have to admit he is a greedy <insert derogatory adjective here>, or shut up and put up.

he wont be sold this jan, but if chelsea and united start making bids in the window it could screw with his head again and fuck us up for a whole month, which would be job done anyway for chelsea.
still we could just play sandro and parker and 2 wingers

In which case we should be challenging the FA to do something...like we should have in the Summer.

I think yes he will unless he is on the same money he could get at chelsea.

IMO this may be a "ambition" thing for him but clearly money is the most important factor.

I must say I do admire Modric for the way he has played since the window closed. Some players would sulk or do the bare minimum, he has been fantastic giving 110% and putting himself on the line. Despite what happened in the summer I have to respect that.

What you have to gauge is that we rejected £40million in the summer, so the buyer would need to START at £40million. And for me, if Financial Fair Play is being taken seriously by these clubs I think you won't see them bid that kind of Money for Modric when David Silva went for sub £30m, and so did Fabregas (sort of). Also I think as a matter of principle...Levy will not sell to another English side. If Madrid or Barcelona come in for him, then he would deal at £40m+ I reckon

I do hope Levy can sit down with Luka and give him what he deserves to be paid. Of course then you have the problem of half the squad wanting those wages but to be fair in the direction we are going we are gonna have to pay those wages.

I think if he's offered the reported substantial wage increase he might stay providing we finish in the top 4 obviously.

Either way he'll be here until next summer, he won't be sold in January.

He certainly won't leave in January and if we get cl next season he won't leave in the summer either. In fact, he won't leave until Levy is ready to sell him. The battle has been won.

These two things do not go hand in hand, if clubs want to reign in their spending on transfer fees, logic states wages will have to also be lowered on average. Personally I cannot see anyone giving Modric 150000 a week

We should make an agreement to sell him to Barcelona in summer 2013 when Xavi retires. That would suit all parties and give us 3 windows of peace.
