IF we win the cup, this will be the best season since 91!

Regardless of where we finish, whether that will be third fourth fifth sixth or seventh. This will be the best season since 1991. why? Because the game is all about winning trophies. I don't care what anybody says. Unfortunately the modern game says it all about finishing in the top four. But how ridiculous does it sound when finishing 4th is better than winning something? I guess I'm of the generation when winning the FA Cup was a big thing and seen as massive aceheivement. I'm told it isn't any more and this is where the game is losing it IMO.

There is still something special in my eyes seeing the Spurs captain clients that Wembley and lifting the trophy!

Ok so the likes of Modric, Bale, and possibly VDV will probably leave if we don't get CL football. But to be honest I don't really care. if they want to go just go. We will rebuild next season sign new players and move on.

If at the end of the season we have won the cup it will go down in history and we can all tell our grand kids about it. Has a much better ring to it than talking about the season we finished bloody 4th!!

I know a lot of you will disagree with me though.

Ok, but aren't you one of those that wants the manager sacked? Would be a bit odd to do that if we've had our best season for 21 years?

Oh look its the Bear! The two things are separate. I don't like Harry and I'd like to see him go whether it would be now or certainly at the end of the season. But my point is winning the car is more important than finishing in the top four . come on you spurs!

LOL

I can see this headline now after Ledley lifts the cup at Wembley.

"This is our best season for 21 years! Come on you Spurs! Harry out! Sack him!"

First season I can remember supporting spurs... 1990-91.

I have the final on dvd.

We were poor with superstar Gazza on the field, but once he goes off, the team play good clean, passing football and Forest don't.

The ref is quite lenient by today's standards, but tell the players to get up a lot and I like that, to be honest.

Yea winning a cup is much more important than CL footballl

I was so jealous of Birmingham last year when they won the Carling Cup and had Championship football to look forward to the following season while all we had was boring midweek games against Inter and AC milan and the Mighty Real Madrid!

I'd have done anything to swap places with a blue nose seeing as football is ALL about winning cups and northing else matter

I have to agree with my goode fiend AM on this one.

Now, if it was finishing in the top 4 and winning the Cup, I would agree with the OP.

Surely winning the cup and finishing in a higher position than we did in 1991 would make this a better season.

I would be disappointed if we only won the cup and failed to qualify for C/L when you think back to a few months ago we were real title contenders................hmmmmmm

Only in the eyes of the blindly deluded

We only kept pace until xmas time, if you're not in the mix in the run in you're not a title contender in my opinion.

What we were however was shoe ins for automatic CL qualification and I very much agree that if we end up without CL football next year now I will very much be disappointed even if we do win the FA cup (which I don't think we will)

I do however think we will rally enough to come fourth in the league and personally I would take that ahead of coming fifth and winning the cup.

Only if looked at without any other context.
Looked at in context: We have assembled a squad that is better than any we have had in the EPL. Finishing in the Top 4, and thereby attaining CL football was our stated aim at the start of the season. So, not finishing in the Top 4 will automatically make the season a FAIL. On top of that, we got ourselves into such a fantastic position (12 points clear in third, at one stage), that failure to finish in the Top 4 will be a massive disappointment, regardless of where we have finished in previous seasons. This seems all the more disappointing as it is the third time we have imploded in this part of the seaon, under Mr Redknapp, so that some of us are beginning to worry that this is a bit of an MO for him. If this is the case, then, regardless of whether he gets the AngrrrrLund job or not, it probably means he has taken us as far as he can. Failure to attain CL football will also mean we will be struggling to hold on to our best players, and have less chance of adding to that level of player.

The Cup would be nice, but a sad fact of modern football (and one it took me a while to accept, TBH, as I'm a back in the day person), is that the Cup is secondary in importance to attaining CL football.

Should it be this way? We may find some common ground in debating this - but, ATM, attaining CL gives clubs a huge revenue boost that winning Cups doesn't, and that, ironically, makes clubs better able to compete for trophies.

I am largely in agreement with the OP it is sad that fourth place is regarded more important than actually winning a trophy. I am trying to think of another sport where this happens and I can't. Unfortunately it's all about the money that's why fourth place is so highly valued. I have yet to see any obvious benefits from our last champions league appearance. So we played Real Madrid, AC Milan and Inter, great clubs but we have played them before. I think the football governing bodies need to look at this situation because it's not right.

Ajax and Arsenal's Roll of Honour around the top of the Arena and Emirates Stadium don't list the years they qualified for the CL, it lists the trophies they have won. That is what will be remembered and that is as a fan what I want to see us win.

Of course both would be preferable but I would far rather win the FA Cup over finishing 4th placed in the league and finishing 4th has never been more important than winning silverware

We were 5 points behind United with both them and City to play,we actually had a chance ....................we are 20 points behind now and clinging on to 4th by a thread.

Getting CL makes it more likely we will get CL again and may assist us in winning the F.A Cup in future.

We all appreciate that getting CL will give us more money, more recognition, attract players and so on and so forth.

When I was a boy, the F.A Cup was a much closer 2nd to the league. It is only since about 1994 and the CL that it has devalued. I also feel the magic of the double went when Man U did it 3 times, Arsenal did it another 2 times and Chelsea did it.

As success seems to be what generates more success, CL first, Cup second.

But I must say...

Go out an' eff Chelsea up, Tottenham.
