This is purely hypothetical and has not been rumoured in the press, but I live with a gooner who is on the 'get the nonce out' bandwagon, who also he said our Klinsmann would be a good candidate to replace Whinger and I know this is highly unlikely but what if... How would you feel if one of our ex players/cult heroes/legends was commander of the scum's ship? Would you boo him? Blank this segment of his career out? Remeber his time here and forget him?

It would be a similar situation to Zola and Steve Clarke at West Ham. Chelsea fans still hate West Ham, but respect Clarke and Zola.

Klinsmann is an extremely intelligent man who is well aware of the history between the clubs. There is no way on earth he would go to them. And given his background, I couldn't see the Goons ever considering him.

However. Given those points, I could never boo JK. Unless his side beat us. In which case, we would all obviously throw large objects in his direction.

And if Wenger ever left the Goons and was willing to come here, I'd have him in a heartbeat. Given the talent he has discovered and the type of football they play with far less money to invest than us, he is, though I hate to say it, probably the best manager in PL history.

Oh come on!

For the last four years he may as well not have existed. How anyone could rate Wenger above Ferguson is ludicrous.

The bloke's gotta earn a living. If he can get a good job at Arsenal and wants to take it, good luck to him. Will be a shame, but we can't stop them from earning a crust. Still, he has fond memories of us, knows the history so i'd say its unlikely.

I think Klinsman would take the job. He's nowhere near as good a manager as Wenger though.

I think if Wenger goes Arsenal have shot themselves up the arse massively.

I'm with Archie on this, Wenger has been so important to Arsenal. Without him there is no way they would have won the trophies they have, and pulled away from us in terms of success. If he had joined Spurs back in 96, I am of the firm belief we would have spent the last few years as one of the so-called 'big four' at their expense.

Not a fan of him as a person, but he's probably my choice as best PL manager considering what he's done with his resources over the years.

As for Klinsmann and the original question, it would probably depend on how successful he was. Can't imagine booing Klinsmann, but can imagine cheering him if he started screwing them up. :)

Bronno - I'm not discrediting what Arsene has done for the Scum, but you simply cannot put him on a level with, or above, Sir Alex.

What resources did SAF have at Man Utd in the early days? When was the last time Man Utd had 4 trophyless seasons?

I said on a different thread when I was being massively upbeat on the future being lilywhite that the Wenger and Fergie dynasties are ending and whoever replaces them will have one fuck of a hard act to follow.

In 4 years time for example the balance of english football hopefully could have changed a lot due to the 2 longest serving managers retiring and their replacements not being up to it.

In the early days Ferguson was a failure and was on the verge of being sacked. When money started to become available, he was happy to spend it, breaking the British record in early 90's with Roy Keane, Andy Cole and god knows how many more times. If I remember correctly it was often Bryan Kidd that was said to have been behind the development of the mid-90's group of youngsters that came through the ranks.

Ferguson is a good manager, no doubt, but he has spent an absolute fortune and continues to do so. I remember seeing some stats a couple of years back which showed Wenger had actually made a profit on transfers during his tenure.

I think Fergusons job has been easier, I think other managers could have had his success and probably more, certainly in Europe, given the resources made available to him. I don't think anyone could have done as well in Wengers position, so hopefully he will leave - as they can only be worse off without him.

P.s I am not Arsene Wenger (I feel sick being so positive about him).

The problem is, if Wenger goes, all the top managers in the world would be interested in that job. Club with decent resources, biggest league in the world. Some great raw talent. In need of some big signings. Massive stadium. established in the CL.

Hence why, good though Wenger is/has been, you've got to worry that if he goes that'll appoint a Hiddink, Ancelotti, or even a Rijkaard or Pellegrini, who will drive them back up the league. Or at least make them competitive.

Back to the original question and I doubt Klinnsi would take the gig if offered, but I bet you Juande Ramos would... which would be interesting.

As much as it pains me to say it, I am convinced that if Wenger was in charge of some of our 'potential' i.e. the Jenas', Huddlestones, Dos Santos' of this world, we'd see a different set of players. I'm sure that he, more than most, has the ability to turn a player from a would-be inconsistent star, to a world beater. Too much...maybe a tad.

Oh, and no, I wouldn't be too fussed in Klinsmann took the helm. It would be a good job for him and almost certainly a backwards step for them.
