Is it a good thing for our players; Bentley, Woody, Jenas etc to be training with England, not playing and not getting injured demoralised or tired. Or should we be hoping they will play to further the Glory of our mighty English club?

Will international success breed confidence into Bale, Gunter, Lennon, THudd, Pav and probably Corluka and Modric, returning them full of confidence to face Villa?

Is anyone else hoping for a career threatening injury to occur during Bulgarian training sessions?Eek

It will most likely do fuck all. How can you have confidence after an international match going in to a PL when you're not actually playing with the same people at all? It's a completely different ball game*.

*Technically it's still football, but whatever.

success breads success in my eyes.
i read a good article in the times yesterday that, amazingly, terry had contributed to. it also enlisted the sentiments of jamie carragher and the point was that playing for england is generally a nightmare. with this in mind i'd say that training with england and not playing is infinitely better than training with england and then getting on the pitch.

Good point, actually playing for England seems to knock most player's confidence as they can hear the press sharpening their pencils to plunge into their backs the moment a mistake is made. For me, the biggest factor in a lack of England success is the press we have. If we win a game, we are nailed on WC winners with added hysteria and if we lose we are the worst team ever. Most England fans are led by whatever the Sun says and that affects the atmosphere in the games.

Really good piece by Jol in the Sunday Times today and also in the Times last week comparing Modric being marked by Barry to little effect and Belletti to much greater effect.
