Is it worth tuning into anymore Cup games this season?

Well after reading several comments from Arry rightly prioritisng the premier league and the reports about him earning a massive bonus if he keeps us up, i wonder whether he will even care about the cups this season?

I agree with that Ledley King should only be played in the premier league until we have 40 points but even without King, i feel we have a strong enough team to reach the latter stages of the UEFA Cup, if not, win it.

As we all know, it is very difficult for Spurs to achieve any glory in the league these days and the cups are the only tournaments where we can look back in the future with great memories.

Lets be honest, 10 to 15 years time, not many will remember our 2-1 win over Liverpool yesterday but will remember the 2-1 win in the cup final against Chelsea because it meant something.

What are your thoughts on this?

You have to prioritise. That doesn't mean we won't care about the cups, but league survival is paramount.

Would you be happy for us to duff up Liverpool in the carling cup, only for us to be relegated and playing in the championship next year?

I think as you said he will being prioritising the league (and proper order)....but that doesnt mean ressie's and not giving a shit in the cups at all imo.

I reckon we will field strong teams in Wafa and FA and really go for it and if we get to the semi-finals we will be taking it very seriously.

Its also worth keeping in mind that comes January we could be well out of trouble. If we're sitting in 12th , clear of relegation, the cups will be all we have to play for.

No i don't think we'll relegate, the only 2 players that i think we should keep away from cup games for the time being is King and Woodgate. These two are not replaceable but whereas the others are. Obviously pav and corluka are cup tied but still there's enough quality their to get us to the latter stages of the UEFA Cup. It's just that, i feel this season could be the last time we see Spurs in Europe for a long time and would be a shame if we went out without giving it a good shot.

Personally I thought last season was a poor season. Even with a cup win and going out of the uefa on pens.

The league is the bread and butter and the glory days in recent times have been finishing 5th, hot on the heels of the sky 4.

I don't know about you, but I'd prefer that Tottenham to return.

he has to prioritise the lge

I love winning cups but sometimes short-term pain is needed for long-term gain

personally I'd like to see a team something like this on Thurs

Jansson/sanchez - gunter dawson woody bale/rocha - gds zokora hudd lennon/bale - modric - campbell/bent

I think modric will want to play v his old club and it could be helpful

I wouldn't want such a 'smallish/youngish team' in the prem - but at home v zagreb is different for me

5th certainly won't be happening this season and will it happen with arry in the coming seasons? I don't know, hopefully he can but i'm not sure especially with oneil at villa and man city's cash. Although City may not do a great deal this season but with the money, i can see them replacing Hughes with a top manager who will in return be able to buy more players in the same class as Robinho.

Sorry to be pressimistic but i think we could be back to the 90's where mid table was the norm and the odd cup run which is why i really hope Spurs give the UEFA Cup a good shot.

It could be a good thing to be honest, we are in a position where our best 11 must play the league games, and yes that means 100% Ledley King, if he plays another 25 leagues games and no cup games this season i'll be happy with that.

Another good thing that could come from this is that younger players may be given an opportunity to show Harry what they can offer to the club, this itself is exciting, call back Archie-Henville and Pekhart and give them a run out in the cups, you never know it may save the club millions, just 1 diamond out of our youngsters and it will be all worth it.

With Redknapps history of developing youth ie West Spam, this would be an ideal season really to do it.

Definitely. Get away from the Levy baby farming approach  in which we buy a great young prospect, leave them playing in the ressies, give them one or two high profile cameos in the 1st team, and then sell them on.
Have been frustrated in recent years by the "who shall we buy" mentality when we seem to have had some great young players awaiting their chance to shine. All this recent fuss over John Bostock - I wouldn't have been surprised if he never ever played in the 1st team. Hopefully under Harry, Bostock and his teammates will get their chance eventually.

Tuning is spelt T-U-N-I-N-G...............

And yes it is very worthwhile, I fancy we'll get very far in one of the cups this year AGAIN!

Yes we've to concentrate on the league as we've got to try and move away from the bottom 3 places.

BUT, I don't see why we can't progress through the Uefa Cup group even if we rest a few players (King being one of them). Spartak and Zagreb are beatable, especially at home. Nijmegen (sp?) are a poor team, it's only a few years ago that they got beaten over in here in Ireland in the Intertoto Cup with Kevin Doyle (a recent transfer target of ours!) starring. 7/9 pts are easily attainable and that will get us through to the next round.

Liverpool will rest a few players in the Carling Cup game against us at WHL, and while I'm sure Arry will do the same, why can't we beat we beat Liverpool (and it'll be a weakened Liverpool team) AGAIN at home?!

By the time the FA Cup come's around, I'm hopeful our league position will be much healthier. Plus with a few handy draws, we can hopefully progress without having to put in a huge effort!

So to sum up....

WATCH THE CUP MATCHES, IN HARRY WE TRUST, COYS!

The league must always be priority, especially in our position. We are traditionally a cup team, it's something we have had to live with. I, like everyone else likes winning the odd cup, and don't see any reason why we can't continue to do so. But we must get out of this mess first.

Definitely field a strong team for Thursday, with the exception of resting Ledley for City...

We should definitely be taking the UEFA seriously, especially when we could end up playing the likes of Milan or Valencia in the later rounds...
