How on earth does anybody on here know what Rafa's core fitness is like?

We're not exactly the Spurs we were under Jol where we were visibly blowing out of our collective arses on occasions.

I use my eyes, I use my ability to see a player visibly tire in games, moreso than those around him.

Stand him next to a Gareth Bale and the difference in core fitness is evident.

They are hardly inflamatory comments.

Are there any happy fans on this site?

He thinks he deserves preferential treatment. He should get his fat arse down to the gym and maybe then he can mouth off. You wouldn't hear Luka chatting bollocks to the press.

Stand just about any player in the Premiership next to Gareth Bale and the difference in fitness is evident.

I'm sure Spurs know what rafa's physical condition is and if it's not what it should be I somehow think it would be a priority don't you?

rafa obviously has some muscle issues at the moment but I'm certain the club ensure that one of their key players is properly prepared by the work he puts in.

They do. Harry has spoken about it several times. And this is why he gets the hook so often.

Ok, you can play the blinkered card all you want. It's clearly visible that VDV is carrying too much timber and not enough core fitness.

Everyone has different fitness levels and capability. Bale and Sandro are freakish in their ability to just keep going past the 90 minute mark. Not everyone is the same. I think he is below his own level of fitness but that is not suprising considering he probably didn't have a focused pre season and has carried injuries all season. I hope that with a good summer he could be even better than he was in the first half of this season. As for him going down the tunnel, i don't really care. A lot of players do down the tunnel and shower and come back etc. Against Milan he did the same but he was on the pitch celebrating after the game so he came back. I like that he has an attitude and gets p!ssed off when he get's subbed - i don't subscribe to these "he's not bigger than the club" type comments, i think Spurs have lacked genuine winners for decades and now he and Gallas make a considerable difference to the expectations of both fans and players as they show that you should be angry if you don't perform well. The fact that he comes off is unfortunatly part of the role of his position. We build the team around him and if we aren't winning then we might need another striker and change of formation so he has to be pulled (and you cannot take off Luka as he is the best player at the club or his defensive partner be it Sandro or Wilson etc). Equally if we are winning and want to hold a lead then he is in a position where you can replace for another defensive player or someone with more energy ala Jenas, leaving a target man up top on his own. He knows this and deep down i'm sure he accepts it's the right call to sub him but it is great that he doesn't like coming off the pitch surely. As for the West Ham game he was far more affective than Defoe but as i said that was a choice of pulling a striker for a striker or a midfielder for a striker and Harry wanted 2 goal scorers up top (the fact that none of our strikers are any good at scoring is a seperate debate).

I fear he will do a 'Berba', but I hope he doesn't. It's pivotal if we qualify for CL or not this season, that will change a lot of things IMO.

Exactly, and I'm sure Spurs get him out in the best possible condition that they can.

It's not blinkered, It's a belief that the club get him out in the best condition that he can be in.

People implying that laziness or not putting the work in is just total guesswork and very likely complete bullshit.

I don't know how people can't see that Rafa is clearly not 100% as fit as he could be.

Most of you are fools. I hate Spurs fans sometimes. He is a fantastic player, and is frustrated at being subbed. He wants to play. I'm happy for players to be moaning about not playing, or getting subbed. He's not thrown a hissy fit, just saying he wants to play.

He carried us through the first half of the season, and yet some are jumping on his back. It's ridiculous.

So you believe we're not getting him out on the pitch in the best possible condition, letting him off not doing enough physical preperation etc?

there are obvious reasons why he might be a bit behind but it has nothing to do with people saying he should get his fat arse down the gym etc.

For those calling him lazy, he was in training on his day off last week whilst all the other players took it easy. He's not carrying timber, he's a different build to others. He's been out for a little while and didn't have a proper pre-season so his fitness probably isn't what it could be, but it's not that big an issue. He can do 90 minutes.
