Why do we always assume a new manager will bring players from his former club? They are the club most likely to avoid dealing with us after taking their manager.

Some of the time yes, but i think Pompey were happy to let Harry join us, we did it all above board (unlike with Ramos) and paid them a good amount of money for him.

Also in this specific case there are reason why it is obvious we'd try and sign Defoe.

The Diarra rumours have been going strong since January as well, so more that we already were interested in signing him and now we have a chance of encouraging him to join us that we didn't have before.

One thing though is that we're likely to have to pay through the teeth for both players, Defoe i can't see coming for less that £14m now, and Diarra probably not far from that either.

I think Diarra could definitely be on. He wanted to move to a bigger club, he likes playing under Harry and also I believe he's got some kind of clause in his contract.

definitely a prolem position and definitely one of the better players to fill it.

yeah, i think its the "Santa Claus" that says if he wakes up on christmas morning under someone's christmas tree then he can sign for them. Harry's invited him around for drinks on christmas eve. Diarra is fairly fond of the gatt and is prone to falling asleep in strange places - thats how he signed for pompey in the first place.

Well Harry sign a DM, LM and FW at Christmas and attack all our problem positions in one fell swoop. I'm not sure I like that idea, it would give us fewer excuses as to why we're not performing

Is Diarra actually a DM? He is a tough tackler and disciplined enough to play there but I had his 'natural' position as more a box to box player (when he got the red card against us he was pretty far down the pitch, he also scored a few for Pompy last year). Not that that's a problem if he is good enough.

He's always been a DM, but Harry sometimes used him further up the pitch because he is capable of supporting the odd attack as well. Kind of like how Fergie uses Carrick at United, comparitively with when he was with us.

Good knowledge, duely repped

I have to say I wouldn't mind Defoe back, it'd give me a heart warming feeling to see him run out in our colours again - he really loved spurs.

That said, if we could still get Arshavin then it's a no brainer for me.

Arshavin and Diarra would be just 2 signings that could change everything about our team. I don't think we need to sign anyone else.

They're in the financial shit. Probably why they took the cash for HR, if we offered to take one of their big earners off them and a decent transfer fee, I reckon they'd bite our hand off!

I would love Defoe back but I would rather get Owen in.

OOh and ITK from Supersonic:

If Redknapp has somehow managed to take over a new club, run training, oversee our first league victory this year, talk to the press AND sign Diarra from his old club while Levy is busy sorting out compensation, contracts, the press, grovelling apolagies to the fans, and whatever else he may do, then hes pretty damn efficient

Both Diarra and Defoe would be great signings, and both seem highly plausible, Defoe more so perhaps.

This comments feels weird to me seing as he spent about 4/5 years at the lane under a year ago, just weird but I agree.

The Diarra thing has got nothing to do with Harry Redknapp it had legs during the summer and Redknapp said a couple of sales he thought were going to happen didn't, Diarra was supposedly one of them.
If it was a strong possibility then it's probably more likely now but it's not just Redknapp bringing players from his old team.

i founf Defoe to be a frustrating forward who was constantly offside and extremely selfish in his play, so i would not want him back. i would prefer to see harry get Bent back to his best.

Arshi wont solve are probs. arshi is a 9-10 goal man MAX. BUt is a creater. We dont need him. Defoe would be a better signing. He will score a LOT more goals

Scout let himself down by behaving very petulantly on Glory Glory in the last window. He threw his Lego and Action Man a considerable distance and all this accompanied by the foulest of language. To quote: 'if you don't beleive me I'll f@ck off', to which end he was heartily encouraged by those who a) hadn't even invited him in the first place, and b) those who prefer their forum experience(s) to be adult, and free from needy guff and those who are compelled to offer it.

So Diarra could come eh (and therefore by definition could equally not come)? Thanks for the info. I'm not that we're any further than we were before that, but thanks anyway.

Stop taking the fun out of the ITK with your realist views!!

Diarra is a spoilt brat that would leave us in a year or two. Defoe, been there done that and got the tee shirt. Keane was better than him. We have Bent, we have Pav both as good as Defoe if not better. Modric can be pushed further forward so can GDS. Defoe should sty at portsmouth where he doesn't have to challenge for his place.
