I've never really believed we have the team to finish fourth unless we do it in the style of Everton and get there by default.

The fact that we're still in the mix at this stage of the seaosn is a massive plus. Harry has put together a squad of above average Premiership players and they are playing at the level I'd expect from them.

We need a couple of real quality players preferably up front. A strikeforce as deadly as Keane/Berbatov or Sheringham/Klinsmann would see us competing as equals with the likes of Liverpool, not easy to find though.
I sure am glad that my predictions that we need a top quality strikeforce to get 4th was wrong. Although I still think that's what we need to maintain it or push on further.

It's a beautiful thought but it won't happen. Not gettin' the fourth spot anyway.

Our results at home against Stoke, Wolves and Hull will haunt us when the league is finished. Togheter with 4 dropped points away against Everton and Villa will be too much for us to come back from.

I thought i made that quite clear in my post  It will be very clear after our game number 38.

If nothing extreme happens during the transferwindow where we replace our benchplayers that are there just because it looks good, teams like manc and pool will catch up pretty fast.

I don't like it any more than you but it will happen.

you are seriously clutching at straws if you think we are gonna finish 4th. The fact of the matter is when the chips are down and we are expected to get results, we BOTTLE it.
As I said at the start of the season we would finish 8th, 7th at best this season. I stand by that.

. Come the end of the season we will yet again have hard luck stories to talk about whilst the Sky 4 will be looking forward to CL footy again as they just get on with it and get results!

:) Two of Harry's biggest critics wrote of our season. How coincidental; maybe the lust of so desperately wanting to be right overpowered realism and confidence.

The cynics were right about the dropped points costing us though: 6 pts against Wolves, 3 pts against Stoke, 2 pts against Hull and 4pts from those late equalisers at St Andrew's and Goodison lost us the title :D

can you be any more pathetic Coyboy? No one can blame you for not trying though

I also posted that there are ways of gettin those points back and that would be wins over team from the top 4....but since it didn't suit your childish agenda i guess you didn't search for it.

Just saw these, and they seemed pretty unequivocal- "it will happen", "it will be clear after game number 38" (who the fuck talks like that anyway!), "teams like manc and pool will catch up pretty fast if nothing extreme happens in the window" (I like Gudjohnsen but his signing was hardly extreme), "Not getting the fourth spot anyway".

Oh dear.

Calm down Michelle no need to be a girl about it. My point is pretty clear, these unequivocal predictions are pretty pointless and not what I indulge in much less in January. There are too many variables. Is it that hard to be a man, and say you were wrong rather than try to wriggle out of it. Come on get some perspective, this is a football forum.

I always thought we had a great chance, but would never say one way or the other so adamantly and unequivocally. It's guess work. You are essentially guessing on about 30 games at that point. I was also pointing out that it may say something that those writing us off so clearly are the very same ones that don't like our manager.

How could anyone have predicted with any certainty were we would finish when it was all to play for?

There are some negitive posters on this board, but i'd imagine that is just part of their character. Just as there are optimistic / positive posters - a character thing again.

There are people who gloat about being right, and there are those who will never admit they are wrong.

ALL contribute to the rich tapestry that is Spurs Community - long may it continue.

It's not simply a case of being optimistic or pessimistic. If you've been watching footall for long enough then you obtain the ability to make a judgement on a situation.

The truly successful teams over the past 6 seasons have almost always had a talisman upfront, we don't have that. That's largely why many predicted Man City were the most likely team to crack the top four. Tevez and Adebayor is potentially a lethal strikeforce and a difference maker in the big games. You can't say the same about Defoe anf Crouch.

The sky four in the past have had more money, deeper squad, stronger mentalities and even when they get off to a bad start (like Liverpool this season) they've always had enough quality to win the marathon (exception of Everton pipping Livepool).

So after weighing I correctly predicted Spurs would finish 5th the first time under Jol when many told me we should be hoping for top 8. The next season I predicted we'd push Arsenal again and would put in better performances in the cups. After looking at the sky four, Man City and ourselves I came to the conclusion that we were most likely looking at 6th (although I never said 4th was impossible). I'm very happy that I was wrong but it was my judgement on the situation that was wrong it wasn't simply because I'm a pessimistic person which I'm not anyway.

Take it as a compliment, I'm just a big fan of Monkey Magic

Oh dear - me stupid -

I thought to were referring to a fellow poster.

As much as i loved Monkey Magic myself, i was never that familiar to remember their names.

The avatar was chosen for the resemblence to our flying Welsh wing-back.

All well and good and to a point i agree with you.

What you are suggesting is that some have the ability to look at the teams in the league and rationaling determine their strenghts and weakness, and to a greater or lesser extent predict where they will finish in the league.

What i was referring to was that posters either make these judgements thoughtfully, or not at all. As such, there is a lot of knee-jerk reaction to both results and ability. In my opinion, these knee-jerk reactions have a lot to do with the poster's own personality. They don't bother me one bit - although i do avoid SC after unlucky defeats as the negitive / pessimistic voices are usually quite loud at those times.
