There is no question that Jimmy should be ranked as the best player ever.

League games 321
League goals 220

FA CUP games 36
FA CUP goals 32

League Cup games 8
League Cup goals 5

Europe 14
Goals 9

Jimmy also played 379 games in 9 years, that is an average of 42 games EVERY year, but he also missed half a season due to Jaundice.

His contribution to the teams he played in was immense and he was responsible for the trophy's that were won between 1961 and 1970.

He had a level of skill, whilst playing with 'old fashioned' ball and boots, that only today's Brazilians could match.

On today's market, he would be the most valuable player in the world. No question.

Supporting Spurs includes knowing the history and how the history was created. Top say that Ginola should be rated above Jimmy, is quite frankly, absurd. Eek

It's Hoddle really though. From fan to schoolboy to apprentice to first team for 10 years. In CM but still with a wonderful goals record. Controlling games. left foot right foot. Greaves was marvelous and underrated in terms of build up play but Hoddle was more complete. Hoddle's time as a player too came after football went through it's first major revolution in terms of subs and the 442 tactics, also the professionalisum and money had risen consdierabley and teasm now put more enpahsis on not losing than ever before. Competitiveness had risen and risks taken by teams to win games had fallen. A harder envioroment for a flair player to prosper. Half of Greaves career was played when you only had 2 out and out defenders. The business end of the pitch had far more space in it and defending was for the hard, clumsy and slow... That Greaves goal against utd looks ridiculous, like school boy football. King would have had him in the first tackle... where as Hoddles chip would even have done Schmichael.

it's true football had become more 'difficult to play' between JG & Hod's era - but you can only play in your own era - the defence that greavesie ran through was the champions of that season - Man U

What about Blanchflower, White, "Sandy" Brown and Vivian Woodward shouldnt all of those also be in the mix to be the best spurs player of all time (not that I was alive to see them)

but in my view Jimmy would get my vote:wink:

Another thing worth mentioning is JG has scored the most goals in top flight English football - 357 - and it's hard to see anyone beating that

20 goals in a prem season is very good and even then it would take someone 18 seasons of consistent scoring
