I understand your basic point - but I would counter with this - imagine that we can rest Eriksen more often, by playing Grealish in Cup matches and even occassionally subbing in for Eriksen.

A stronger, better rested Eriksen, will make us stronger contenders, and we don't have to risk losing Cup matches because we don't have a play-maker when Eriksen sits.
We get to play Lamela in that spot now that he's back. Son, Lamela, and Lucas behind Llorente in that cup game was one of the more fun games to watch this season.

I’m not bothered about him wearing his socks around his ankles, and I’m nowhere near as negative on this potential target as quite a lot of people on here.

We need to remember where our bread has been buttered in recent years. Yes, hopefully there may be a little more in the coffers these days to try and get some higher echelon players, but we have very good form with this type of signing.

When Grealish first broke through, he exhibited flashes of some very real talent. Maturity has always been the issue. If you take what Trix and a few others have spoken about on this thread as informative reliable news then it sounds like the light has finally been switched on in his head.

As long as the price was 20m max, in the current climate that would represent a very fair price to increase our rotational depth, increase the homegrown numbers, and offer te potential of a player that could blossom further and become very very good. Teams of recent have had players of the ilk of Rose, Walker, Dele, Trippier follow similar paths and be important to the team.

Yes, we want those 1-2 players that can immediately improve the first team, but we must also be constantly planning and re-shaping for the future by carefully shuffling and perpetually moulding the rest of the squad to prepare for all eventualities.

As long as he is not our main choice and is say, our replacement for Sissoko with a fee of up to £18,564,498.09p (plus HMRC penalties :woot:) inc add on's, I'd take him.

Huge potential, he seems to have got his head down this year. And he would be better than Barkley...of course.

I get the idea of a cheaper homegrown backup to Eriksen. I think I prefer the sound of James Maddison in that case however. If we could get Grealish from a fire sale it wouldn't be the worst. Terry was speaking incredibly highly of him recently, and despite being an utter thunder****, I'm sure he knows what talent looks like.

Good shout from others about Lamela being Eriksen backup now though, especially with Moura hoping to feature more and us targeting wide forwards.

My brother in law is a huge Villa fan and has been raving about how brilliant he has been in the last 6 months.

I am certain he would be worth a punt at a decent price. He has loads of ability and the time in the Championship is bound to have done him the world of good.

He reminds me in a very small way of a young Gazza (obviously not saying he anywhere NEAR that class). He beats players very easily, can strike a ball and pick a pass.

My main concern is how stupidly one footed he is. Literally never uses his left foot, even when dribbling!

Is there not a player in the academy we could promote instead?

Grealish is ok but Tim Sherwood rates him. The same man that told Harry not to sign Suarez.

Unfortunately I refuse to support anyone with a Birmingham accent

My Mrs has a Birmingham accent :cautious:

And we’ve just moved up to Birmingham with my 2 year old son which means he’ll grow up with a Birmingham accent

Couple of posts on villa talk indicating that we have come in for grealish and will sign him. Neither from established villa itk it would seem (one is Twitter), both the "know for a fact in this case" type.

(BTW thanks for the link to their thread about financial difficulties, makes a good read for those of us who are not busy keeping the gags flowing on here.)
