If you’re concerned because you’ve watched Grealish and don’t think he’ll ever be good enough, then fair enough. But if you’re concerned because this looks like Levy doing his thing and eschewing our targets for a bargain, you’ve gotta ask yourself - would he do that right now, when Poch could sod off to Madrid with literally a single phone call? He’s cheap, even legendarily so, but he’s not a moron. Safe to say any targets we are after at the moment are with Poch’s blessing... at least until Madrid appoint a manager anyway!

My 2 cents...

How many times have we been told by ITK that additional signings may be made if "too good to turn down"

You see, I believe many equate to that having to be a ready made star going on the cheap.

Not necessarily so IMO. Would a circa £20 million deal not be seen as an excellent bit of business. Yes, it now appears Villa are holding out £30 million, who's to say we're interested at that price.

I've seen prices mooted as low as £12 million.

Now, at the right price, I see Grealish as exactly the type of signing we should be looking at as a "too good to turn down"

Homegrown, bags of potential, still young.

Whilst maybe not the marquee signings we are all hoping for, I'm not as quick as some to slate this potential signing and can see it for exactly what it is, and have every faith higher quality will be added in addition.

I could see a headline (for the press) figure of around 25 million but a true price of around 18 million with Levy style add ones which are very difficult to achieve.

All I'm gonna say is that if someone like Grealish is the 'meh' signing then I can't absolutely wait for who the other guy is.

Not the type of signing a top 3 club should be making, he will so rarely play. Even Sissoko plays a different role than him now that we have Lamela and Lucas back. Sissoko plays a defensive role now so this kid won't be taking those minutes.

Just you all wait to hear later in the window we've been priced out of a deal when we blew 20 mil on our 6th AM option, who will become 7th option if we end up getting Martial.

I'm sure Grealish played most of his games for Villa this season just gone as a central midfielder, hence keeping Onomah out of the team

If people repeat the same thing enough times then it will surely come to pass...

Second half of the season, Villa typically played a 4-1-4-1, with Jedinak or Whelan as the DM, and Grealish alongside Hourihane centrally. Whilst both the CMs had license to get forward, Grealish was the creative spark and has far more attacking flair than Hourihane.

But Grealish wasn't playing as a pure No 10. More as a CM, with a DM behind as cover and a responsiblity to receive the ball and spark attacks.

If you haven't seen much of a player I think the best way to judge them is to see what the fans of his club think of him. Most Villa fans are spaffing themselves silly over Grealish and plenty think 40million would be a bargain given his potential. They're no doubt a bit biased but I'd still take their opinions over the "don't rate him" brigade who have probably watched him for about 8 minutes all season.

Also his mazy run in the play off final was RIDICULOUS.
