In terms of what was expected
You're only a couple of years younger than me and i can remember worse...much much worse.

Im hardly bursting with excitement over the window so far, but just found it an odd thing to say.
I learnt a long time ago to expect nothing, regardless of internet rumours...but saying that, even though I don't think anyone can disagree that Poch will have the hump if we do no business, i honestly don't think that will be the case.

So if we aren't careful one of them might end up with a little Unh box next to their name if we fuck them about?

In seriousness, thanks for the info, makes you wonder if we're not looking at both - bit of a reach perhaps on my end. I still think buying young and british has served Spurs well in the past. We'll have to see.

Interesting those stories broke as they did last night, like both parties trying to pressure the other one?

Well it depends how much money we have to spend - at the moment it feels like we literally don't have any! I see no reason why we can't sign both, but it'll probably cost us around £60m for the pair of them...

Does being back in for Grealish mean that some higher priority signing didn't come of?

To be clear - it’s the difference between expectation and reality that I think has been the most pronounced.

If I read your last statement correctly (ie we will do business) I think you’re right, it’s just a difficult thing to have much confidence over

People will probably not agree with me, but in the current climate of things that would be good business, tick this HG thing we've been hearing about for nearly a month and probably see the end of at least one central mid that people don't have a lot of time for.

As you say, doubt it would be both, Grealish seems like the player Poch really has earmarked, guess we'll have to see.

I’m 37. In terms of what was expected vs what was delivered, the difference has been massive.

We’ve never, in my lifetime, been in a more advantageous position. We’re arguably one of he top ten clubs in world football, or at least approaching it. We’re in the CL, we have a world class coach, facilities and some star players.

We should be an attractive proposition. But it’s not manifesting itself in anything. It’s several windows in the making IMO, but this has been piss poor.

Look, I get it, there’s still time to rectify it and we’re keeping hold of our key players. That shouldn’t be sniffed at. But thus far, the evidence points something pretty bloody uninspiring, and the concern is that if we end the window like this, Poch will (rightly or wrongly) be disgruntled.

You can point me towards some ITK or a press conference which suggests he won’t be if you like, but he becomes a flight risk if he feels he’s not being backed

I think of Poch as someone that requires dedication, hard work and a belief in the project. We do not need to sign massive, well known players and in fact there are probably be very few that would fit in. The thing that I think we have done really poorly this year is the reveals of new contracts. If our big players are all signed up then let it be known, it can't hurt when it comes to attracting players to the club to let them know that Dele, Hugo, Jan etc are still going to be here.

Personally I wouldn't be too bothered about us making any signings, so long as we don't lose any players.

If he is part of a 3 in, then I'm happy with it.

If we are sat here after deadline day with only signing Grealish, I think we will all feel extremely let down by the club. Yes I love the fact we offer young players the chance and look what it has done for the national team......but now is the time we need to buy experienced quality for the team, for the first time in my lifetime, we have a squad where you could say you would struggle to buy someone that would improve the first xi. But we have to try and get someone in who can push/become a starter. CM is a position we are crying out for, due to question marks over Dembele and Winks fitness and at times last season its the position we needed someone in, Eriksen often dropped back which left gaps behind the attack.

We will see though, I would be happy with Grealish don't get me wrong! It's just frustrating that we need to push on, we can all see that.

If Cook plays in a different midfield role to Grealish (if he could play the defensive role in a 3 for example) then I’d be all for it

No idea if he can

Possibly, equally possible that with Zaha supposedly off the table, we had to move back to our homegrown option in a different position.

I've decided I really want to sign him now.

Desperation will do that to you. I've been grinded down into submission by Levy' s inability to sign anyone at all.

The thing is, I am really worried about our CM next season. Winks and Wanyama always injured. Dembele has his own fitness problems. Leaves Dier, Sissoko and that is it. That is horrible. Grealish is more of a number 10 though isn't he? Be interested to see where Poch intends to play him. If Grealish is more of an Alli Eriksen type we still need to sign a CM.

I think it was Trix who said that who we bring in is in flux and one of the reasons is the home grown rule. For example, buying a HG midfielder might let us get a foreign attacker or defender in and vise versa.

Aston Villa don’t need “cash”. Its new investors can put their hands in their pockets.

Aston Villa does need “profits” so it can reduce its losses for the FFP calculation.

So there is a deal to be done whereby the headline price for Grealish is raised increasing the reported profits on the deal but the payments are stretched out reducing the real costs to Spurs.

I would not be surprised if much of the negotiations were about this.

NB before the new investors were found Villa’s main need was for cash to pay its bills. So it might not be surprising that the deal broke down when the new investors were found - Villa’s needs changed.

No transfer is ever truly dead, Im surprised the term is used so freely. Money talks and it only takes a wad of it to bring any 'dead' deal back to life.

I must admit that Grealish coming in doesn't excite me one little bit. I was talking to my Liverpool supporting cousin the other day and he was hoping that we'd sign Grealish. He's a Fulham season ticket holder, so saw a fair bit of him. I also trust his opinion oon non-Liverpool related matters.

Anyway, Grealish is better than nothing at this point, but I was hoping that the club could and would be aiming higher in this TW.

I still maintain that Grealish is a classic Spurs signing - skilful, young, English, bags of potential and available at a reasonable price.

I'd much rather we sign someone like Grealish for £30M than take another £20M punt on a player who looks competent in the French league.

So your Liverpool supporting, Fulham season ticket owning cousin thinks he's rubbish and hopes we sign him?
Someone better tell Levy and Poch this quick.

Good news that we're talking again on Grealish because that must mean they're still willing to sell him. Bad news that we're still some way apart. It's actually the singing I'm most interested in because it's in a position I feel needs filling most in the window. A lot of talk about replacing Dembele but assuming Grealish covers Eriksen as a number 10, but I think he'll start in place of Dembele. I see him as a pivot in the heart of midfield pulling strings between defence and attack.

Haha a Liverpool supporting Fulham season ticket holding fan gives the thumbs down on a 22 year old prospect widely regarded as the most promising youngster in the Championship. I think I'll trust Pochettinos judgement over his this time around thanks
