Probably the finest English referee ever has passed away aged 82. The highlight of his career was refereeing the 1974 World Cup Final.

For those too young to remember him, he was always decisive and very fair. A great referee.

RIP Jack.

It's a shame they didn't genetically map him. We're in dire need of some good English refs. We could have cloned him.

Decent innings at least. RIP.

Also invented the yellow and red cards after a player found out he was cautioned the next day in the paper because he didn't speak English and couldn't understand what the ref told him.

Was watching an interview with him on football mundial yesterday and then the news broke. Very eery. RIP
