Has there been a credible link to him? I have missed it if there has

Snippet of ITK yesterday and Ali Gold keeps naming him randomly in his articles about the position, despite no actual news.

Talent wise, he is up there and would be a really interesting signing. As people have said he's Leicester's best player (the only one I'd consider signing).

But I struggle to see where he would play in a Conte formation. He won't play in a two, I suppose he could play on the right of a three (swapping with kuvuleski), or play in place of Kane. In fact while Kane is on the pitch wouldn't he just take up the same spaces?

Ideally he'd play in front of the two and that's exactly where Kane sets up shop. Wouldn't really provide the width needed in the wide positions either.

So yeah, don't see where he'd play. Cue the long season, lots of games, big squad needed posts, but I just can't see where he plays in our system.

Literally the ideal signing imo.
  • He can play in the 8 or 10 role comfortably
  • He’s positionally versatile enough to play out wide when needed
  • An excellent high-volume creative passer
  • A strong ball carrier
  • Excellent at set pieces
  • He’s homegrown
  • Scores goals from midfield

Does absolutely everything we need and personality wise fits this group perfectly. Wish this had legs!

Nah do not see this at all. He is a decent english player I would like to have in the squad, do not get me wrong. And yeah we could do with more creativity in midfield, but how much of a fit would he really be in for example a 3-4-3?
And we most certainly do not get a discout on Leicester best english player. its like City fans thinking oh we get Kane on a discount, he wants to leave and his contract is soon running out.

I rather think its clever to look at a bit cheaper options for this role, as its not more than a rotation /system change option.
He could play mason mount position easy enough in a front 3. Or we can switch to a 3 4 1 2, it gives us a lot of tactical flexibility which we need

So we thought Eriksen on a free was not worth the money, due to outrageous loyalty bonuses, given he would be a squad/rotation player.

But we will drop 60+ for Maddison?

Yea… way less wages, is 25…. Would have resale value, is homegrown and is actually more of what we need than eriksen these days

Absolutely this!
Struggling to understand the negativity from some people around this rumour.
Agree he'd be expensive but he has all the attributes we're looking for, plus (as others have mentioned) he's HG, which carries a lot of weight.

Given the cost of both (assuming the mooted release clause is true), I would much rather spend £35m on Olise than the likely £60m it'd take to sign Maddison.

He's a really good player but I'm not sure where he fits into our current preferred formations, whereas Olise could play off the right and is a tremendous talent too.

I think Maddison would be an excellent signing. He can play on the right. Often when I’ve seen him playing for Leicester he turns up on the left too. Has potential to play as a false nine (which he did a little when he was at Coventry and with Vardy injured last season I’d argue he did it for Leicester too.) Great at set pieces and gives us flexibility with our formation. Conte has consistently played a 3-4-3 (given our personnel last season) but Maddison in a 3-5-2 could be great. And with 5 subs it gives us the option to change formation mid-match should we be finding our opposition difficult to break down. Yes he’ll cost money but if we want to push for the league this is exactly the sort of investment worth making.
