January Signings: most important factor?

There's a few threads about the Jan sales, who we should buy, what position, who 'Arry likes etc, but surely one of the main things THFC will be looking at this window (which they failed to do on the last window) in a player, is whether or not they are able to play European football for us? This week just proves what an error it was not getting Corluka and Pav signed up before they were cup tied.. :shrug:

To play devils advocate for a second, this week also allows 'Arry to blood some youngsters and see whether they cut the mustard at the top level. So all is not lost.

But you make a good point if we have aspirations of winning this thing.

I'm not sure Harry cares too much about Europe this year and I think it's definitely 3rd on our list of priorities. I certainly don't think he'll reject a player just because he's cup tied in Europe.

Yeah it is a bugger having them cup tied but surely our transfer policy should be more long term based? Harry has said the league takes precedence so i'm sure any January transfers would be more with the league in mind. Would you rather have a player who is free to play in the Waffa or a better player for the long term?

Obviously the Waffa is of great importance to us, especially as our league position is less precarious than it was (thanks 'Arry) but hopefully Bent will stay fit for the latter stages and i'm confident our squad is good enough to far in that competition anyway.

We did sign Corluka before he was cup tied. Once Hughes tried to scupper the deal and City claimed their man wasn't authorised to carry out the signing of the papers there was a grey area while it was all sorted out, it was during this time he was played in europe.


I would hope we could claim some compo for this.
