you having laugh? cut a bit of slack? he cant do basics right. how hard is it to pick up man six yards out and bloody mark him not stand feet away from him before making a token effort? again why turn your back on corner when its every man to the pump after 60 minutes and not only that but again stand off and allow a cross to come in to box? i wud cut some slack if that was in 91st minute and were out on our feet but the guy is a shit footballer, has no football intelligence on the field by way he plays and offers nothing to us time and again. the amount of time he just stands off players and allows them to play is unreal.. we get murdered when he plays 99% of time. fucking hate seen him on team sheet cos i know we are in for real hard afternoon or evening. yet to be proved wrong

Jenas doesn't deserve those kinds of comments. He's always given his best, that might not always be good enough but he's been a loyal servant to the club for many years now while others have come and gone. He's clearly not a first team player when everyone's fit but I don't see who we could get in that would be as good and also willing to sit on the bench and wait for a chance.

I have a lot of respect for Jenas as a person and as a member of our squad. I don't think he's going to get any better than he is now but I think he's easily good enough to play in a top 6 team.

Now then, let me get ready for the stick that's going to come my way :shake:

Far more important is the admission that they were worry to much about Madrid. It betrays the fact that the players have been putting the CL first this season, which most if us could both see and knew would be a fatal mistake.

Hmm. Well every time I try to rep you for this post SC just crashes, so maybe the powers that be simply don't want you to be represented?

Anyway..I agree fully. It confirms our biggest concern that the players were mostly concerned with the Champions League. This was indeed a fatal mistake.

I'm sure this will be an unpopular suggestion for some, but I'd prefer us to qualify for the Champions League 4 or 5 seasons in a row and not get past the quarters in any of them, compared to one season in the semi-finals and that is it. My reasoning beig that this would mean we would have a stronger team in the league, and would be more likely to win trophies...whether the league, the FA cup or League cup...

Not sure why that would be unpopular. 4 or 5 seasons over which this club would be transformed due to increased revenue, markedly higher quality of signings we'd be able to attract and which would likely enable us to get a new stadium up and running more easily with our increased leverage/attractiveness for corporate sponsors vs. one good season is a no-brainer.

This CL bollox and putting one comp above the other actually betrays what a small-time mentality some might have. Some of the players and possibly coaches have seemingly been more than happy to jeopardise our league form for a nice little cup run. I got the impression the league is a comp too but it's OK not to try and compete in that to the fullest extent now.

Rep supplied for both of us.

Can't help but wonder if some of the older, wiser heads that 'Arry wanted to bring in to help our excting but young and inexperienced squad, would have been able to focus more on the league (and, therefore, help the rest of the team to do so)?

But there again, the idea had some SC members (sic.) spitting, so, obviously, 'Arry didn't know what he was doing:grin:

In fairness though, I'd say nearly everyone involved with the club have been distracted by the CL. We all talk about how we should focus on the league and all that, but even still there are a load of fans more focused on the return leg against Real, than Stoke at the weekend.

We can say, "yes, but their professionals, etc. etc." but they're still human, and are affected by psychological factors as much as any of us. That is why it is all part of learning. If we miss out on 4th this season, then the peolpe at the club, including the fans, will learn the importance of focusing on the league.

It shouldn't be unpopular, but I've long lost confidence in many fans realising what would be better for this club.

As you say, it's a cup run. That's it. A massive, globally watched cup match, but still a cup match that you don't get to take a part in if you don't do the business in the league.

We got caught up in an 'impossible dream'. We pushed aside our premiership commitments in order to chase the stars.

Some will admire this, and to an extent I can see why..but personally I'd prefer us to see the champions league as a bonus tournament...reached after having achieved the minimum requirement for being a leading Premiership club.

This is spot on, cant believe this isn't the main thrust of discussion in this thread.

Even more telling is that this mind set has trickled down from the top ie..Harry. Not having a pop but it does make you wonder.

SK,

Yep. Who hasn't loved the hell out of being in the CL and sticking it to the likes of Inter and Meelan. However, competing in the CL is the easy bit. We've all seen this now, Shirley? Getting into the CL is the hard part.

Both the CL and league should have taken equal precedence. Strongest team out for whatever game is next and maximum effort to win said game.

Of course, these are just Jenas's views but come on, it's as close as he can come out and say some of his team mates haven't been honest. I wonder if some of those same players will think twice about moving on should a CL club come and offer them a chance of more and increased wages to boot in the future. Meanwhile the club they should have been trying to help get back into the CL will be left with its own problems. (I think that, mercifully, most of the players here will be gutted and determined to try their best to get us back into the CL next season should we fail to do this season.)

Whether or not this club makes it back into the top 4 or not, the commitment and hunger should be off the fucking charts these last 8 games or I'll be livid. We should expect that at the very least.

VDV and Gallas have both recently said something along the same lines.

But the remark about prioritising the CL is staggering, even though most of us were already of the opinion that that was exactly what was going on. I'm so fucking angry right now.

LOL but why you angry, though?

The best players at any club would expect to play in that match and, if they didn't, would ask questions as to what kind of an outfit we are

What? We phoned in our performance at Wigan. There was a disgraceful lack of urgency. What kind of an outfit does that make us?

If thats the case and they cant get the Madrid game out of their head for 90 minutes against Wigan they shouldn't be playing....
