...We've hardly got a "top name" manager in charge of our club, who's rep is spread across Europe, to entice/woo the players to join us!

And when we had one of those what good did it do us ?

Alienated Keane , dismantled the team which got consequetive fifths , destroyed morale and was in the process of taking us down .

Who is to say we wouldn't have got Modric with Jol or Harry or even the underrated Tony Pulis ?

But heh , we pulled off a real coup in getting Pavleuochenko .

There are better players than Jenas out there and as long as we are waiting for him to come good, we won't be!

As far as I am concerned O'Hara, Reid, and Steed are all playing better than JJ this season! and we already own one of them:shrug: and bringing Spurs players back seems to be in vogue:wink:

Arshavin only considered us, and nearly joined us, after speaking to Ramos on the phone

We can't just swap JJ for another player. We need either one of our own CM to completely displace him or the new signing will have to show over at least 1/2 a season that he can do alot better, then we move JJ on. I give the guy alot of stick on here but the truth is he's all we got atm

good squad player - keep him for now

I'm amazed at the number of Goats but I have to admit that I am normally one myself.

We can do better though and I think we could even improve with someone who doesn't have the natural tallent but has some leadership qualities instead.

Back when we were interested in Van Bommel it was the order of the day to find a "Midfield General" and I don't think, bar Davids, that we've found one as yet. Scratch that, we had Carrick, who could dictate play and was something of a fighter. Hudd could yet be that man with a bit more seasoning but I feel we need someone who can do that now.

Qualities Jenas palpably does not have.

Along with Carrick, JJ is the best CM player we've had at the club for 18 years.

Be careful what you wish for

I loved Carrick. I absolutly saw how good he was when others doubted his contribution and I knew how difficult he would be to replace.

I get none of that feeling with Jenas. In fact, if you look at the current squad there are 3 central midfielders who are at least as good as Jenas and Modric is one of them.

Even Darren Anderton was a better CM.

Handy player, but not good enough to handle the midfielders from the Top 4. Sell and put the money to good use.

no passion no skill, all he can do is look busy and run forwards

I voted goat. I want it curried with some rice, peas and yam!

Keep JJ for the moment as I still believe he is a decent player. Frustrating yes but still good cover for The Hudd. I never thought I would be saying those words 2 years ago!

It's all very well saying all that, but you need to more specific. Who can we realistically replace him with who would be definite upgrade? Please also bear in mind that we are talking about the january window, in which it is notoriously difficult to sign top notch players. Central midfield is the one area where we need an additional cover, which means you are in fact advocating the sale of Jenas and the purchase of 2 new quality players in the January. Foolishness I say!

I believe the right thing to do is to sign a new central midfield player in the window who will provide extra cover and competition not just for Jenas, but also Huddlestone and Palaci. After that lets see where we are in the summer. If we achieve a top 4 finish, then it's a whole new ball game and we could attract and afford a new calibre of player.

Why not move Kranj central and buy a left wing back up to Modric?

Wilson and another defensive midfielder, Huddlestone and kranj as play making midfielders. Keep modric on the left and buy a back up for him. Cash in on Janas while he is still considered "good English talent".

Think Kranj would be a much better option in the middle over Janas when Modric is fit to play on the left.

If Redknapp got us into the CL - and I accept that that is a massive 'if', but I can say with certainty that Ramos would NEVER have taken us into the CL - then we'll have a much better chance of signing players like Arshavin than we ever would do in mid-table but being managed by a coach with a fancy name. I can deal with your not liking Redknapp, but I can't for the life of me see why you think Ramos would've been a better option for us. Really, I've tried to work out where you're coming from, and frankly it's an opinion that baffles me.

No point in selling him unless we can get someone better and I mean realistically get someone better. Who? I would like to see someone better than Huddlestone aswell, but who would come to us?
But I fully expect if JJ does go then he will be a success and probably come back to make us regret his going.

Indeed. Kranjcar as an attacking CM or even Corluka as defensive CM have been suggested by some. I still don't think it means we should get rid of Jenas in January. I believe we need consistency and I would still go for Palacios with either Jenas or Huddlestone. If we do go for a CM in January it should be cover for Palacios, in other words someone who can play as a defensive midfielder. We should keep Jenas for the moment and review in the summer.

Therefore my priority would be for another striker. It looks like Pav is leaving so if we were to only buy one top notch player, I would have to be a replacement for him.
