Nice interview with JD on SSN.

Very complimentary about Spurs and our fans and wished the club abd his former team mates all the best.

He's a decent lad and has retained his class to the end.

unfortunately both his on and off the pitch class. spurs will be better off without him ... although i liked his haircuts, especially the latest ones.

One thing that annoys me about the whole Defoe situation is this common belief that he was taken out of the team and never given a fair chance. He used to be the golden boy until he had a crap end to Jol's first season. He was then kept in the team for the first 10 games or so of the next season yet the goals still weren't 'flowing' and many were calling for Jol to finally give Keane a run. He did, and Keane took it.

I like Defoe, I think with a run of games he's a good player, but I don't think he's a great one. Keane has been consistently great since he got back into the team. At no point has Defoe shown he should replace Keane in the team. At no point. He's scored a few good goals, but his overall play, and what he brings to the team hasn't been enough to be anything other than good back up.

Oh come on. We're both speculating, hence my question mark.

At what point have I begrudged people saying "cheers" - if you look I've even done it myself. Yet what I'm saying is, I think people are going waaaaaaaay over the top for what is, in essence a 3rd striker at most.

Levy's policy was clear - I don't care what other clubs do. I'm saying at Spurs that's what I think might have happened. Either way, he certainly wouldn't get a ticket to the first team.

Sir Alex I will pick up on - famously outcasting Van Nistelrooy, Beckham and Stam - for disagreeing with him. Yes.

I don't think Levy would have let him. That's what I'm saying. It was sign up or be sold. Now, Jermain had the foresight not to test the third option - which surely has to be being frozen out? Surely??!?

No cheap shots here - more a dimming of this "legend" status he's somehow earned.

Nothing to do with a Jol thing - I've gotten over the Jol stuff thank you very much  - more a Robbie Keane thing. That's how I took it anyway. Whilst the crowd booed, me and my two chums belted out "Keano - there's only one Keano" out of respect for the on-coming player. Noting that Defoe had missed quite a few opportunities.

Funny how they never boo Keano coming off, and worshipped the very ground Defoe walked on.

For what? Is my question.

Look, I don't want to start a Keane vs. Defoe thing - but Keano has won. I love that and you don't.

And I bury my hatchet now, and I expect a response and you are of course correct: this is a great deal for the club and for JD.

So COYS, let's move forward and out of ShiftAndShoot's shadow.

[OK, maybe one cheap shot]

:oops::wink: - Stoof, you know why these smileys are here....

I wish him all the best by the way. I hope he gets himself back into the england squad too.

I also think it was right for thinking about selling him, and im hoping that Ramos can do for Bent what he did for Kanoute.

Lets face it tho, they better have another striker already lined up for the summer, cos once Berbs leaves (which he will), we'll be down to 2 strikers.

Good luck JD and thanks for the memories!!

Your point, bombom?.

You seemed to hold it against him in previous posts. That's about all i can think of right now.

One more point though.

Re your comment about Keane V Defoe - (Keane has won the fight)......

Defoe's gone to a club 9 points above us in the league, will be playing regular football and will have a great chance of winning his place back in one of the most famous footballing countries around. Routledge has joined a club fighting for a CL place and Gardner's gone on loan to a club in a CL place.

Who are the real winners there? :shake:

It is of course sad to see him leave, but we made a profit on him, and he had not signed a new contract with us. I am sure they will sign a replacement in the summer.

Still Keane. He's become one of the best strikers in the league, whereas Defoe is still going off his reputation of a couple of years ago.

Maybe Routledge
JD He is possibly the big fish in the small pond now.
Gardener going to the best team who don't play football.
Routledge ? Villa are the best prospects (apart from us)to sustain a credible challenge for the top four places.
With Ramos in charge anything and everything is possible.
As for England, bring back Shearer.
