Doherty is homegrown for UEFA purposes, association trained obviously:

Doherty had completed three full seasons at wolves by the end of the season in which he turned twenty one.

Not really. He was loaned to Scotland for a few months in those three seasons.

Also, there is no point to drop Gazzaniga for Clarke in last week's submission if Doherty is homegrown.

Did we know who Dele was before he joined? Players in the lower domestic leagues are great pieces of business imo. Look at Watkins, I know many of us wanted him as our striker this summer, me included for a while. I was ecstatic when we were linked with Benrahma. Bowen frankly was a steal for west ham, he's fantastic. Robertson was relegated. So were Godfrey, Aarons, Lewis, Buendia, Cantwell, Sarr, Doucoure, Wilson, Brooks, Ake, etc. I know some of these performed in the prem, but the point is I don't really think playing at a certain level/being at a club in a worse league should heavily affect our opinions of a player. Especially when they move to a top level club with numerous top players like ours. You see quality players look worse when surrounded by worse players. And players rise up when surrounded by great players. What I saw of Rodon was a player who dominated against the competition he was up against. I'm all for these types of signings before they become Grealish, Maddison, etc.
I am too, if they get enough opportunity to play

I don't see the point of signing a player for the sake of it.
How many games will he play? Is he better than what we have?

If we want to go back in for Skriniar in January, then paying up to £18m for Rodon would make it unlikely. Unless we are selling another centre back, then i'm not sure we will go for another defender until next summer at the earliest.
Wouldn’t be shocked if Toby left, seems to have dropped completely down the order and would be last chance to get some sort of money

Not really, Mourinho plays him in Europe and domestic cup games more at the moment, that could change, certainly with any injuries or suspensions

But in Jan 2012 He loaned out to Hibernian in Scottish league so I not sure Uefa stilled count that he registered with Wolves with 3 consecutive years prior 21

Yeah, definitely. I feel CB is probably the only position in our case where that is possible. Worst case we loan back to Swansea or championship or loan to lower level prem team where he will get real intense experience defending against better players. In general, I don't see a massive difference between Rodon and Godfrey who Everton snapped up for 25mil. That's the going rate for the championship's best, and I know for a fact Godfrey is better than what he showed in the prem, as he was dominant for Norwich 2 years ago. I'd be surprised if he didn't improve his game at a better club like Everton.

Contract expires in 2022, doubt he'd sign a new deal knowing big clubs are interested.

Not sure why we are going for this player after loaning out Foyth who is an international. A premier player of experience yes

It’s that catch 22 balancing your point of view above with all the people moaning our scouts never find these players when they are coming through ?‍♂️

Foyth takes too many touches, too many risks and makes too many mistakes. Haven’t seen Rodon play but Jose must have seen something good there to bid. Trust the club, we’ve been great in business and on the pitch.

Tanganga injury record must be a major concern.. Can’t seem to get fit. CCV is a championship player. We’ve got a lot of games in short space of time we’re an injury away from having 2 fit CBS and Davies being able to slot in. Skriniar was the one but with Birch and Barnett being connected with Rodon there’s no chance he’s not been on the radar for a long time. Still young clearly has potential. People only turning there noses up because it’s not a big name.. these type of signings are effectively what got us to where we are now. If it can be done let’s do it

Looks like Mourinhio wants the flexibility to play a back 3 and a back 4. Dier, Sanchez, Tony, Tangnga, +1 New Signing, Davies as a LCB.
