Antonio Conte targets John McGinn as one of six new Tottenham signings

Conte is desperate to strengthen the Tottenham squad and McGinn is one of the most coveted midfielders in the Premier League

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn is on Tottenham’s list of potential summer targets to bolster Antonio Conte’s squad for European football next season.

Conte will look to add up to six players when the transfer window opens, with Spurs effectively needing one point from their match against Norwich City on Sunday to secure a place in the Champions League.

McGinn has been considered after his three seasons in the Premier League after helping them get promoted from the Championship and establishing himself as a key play at Villa Park during that time.

The 27-year-old is not thought to be among the highest earners at Villa and has three seasons left on his contract, having signed an extension in 2020 after a full campaign in the top-flight under his belt.

His progress since arriving from Hibernian under Steve Bruce put him on Manchester United’s radar and they made an enquiry for him during January but ended up not signing a player during their only mid-season window under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

The Scotland international, who started his country’s three games at the Euros last year, is highly rated at Spurs and will feature further in their discussions for the summer.

Sporting director Fabio Paratici added Rodrigo Bentancur to the squad in the summer and the Uruguay international has performed well under Conte, although they remain in the market for a central midfielder as Harry Winks could leave this summer and Tanguy Ndombele is out of favour.

Dejan Kulusevski and Cristian Romero are set to see their loans turned into permanent deals but it will still leave Spurs needing more, should they seal the point needed at the weekend when they travel to Carrow Road.

McGinn was awarded the Scottish Football Writers’ Association international player of the year this month, missing on three Premier League games for Villa during the campaign and keeping them in contention for a top-half finish heading into the final two games of the season.

If we’re interested in signing him get it done before we head up to Glasgow to play Rangers. He’s a cult figure there

I really like McGinn. Not the flashiest of signings, but a solid PL player.

Not sure he will be worth tha amount villa will want though.

I honestly can’t see it.

There’s going to be thousands of links like this this summer I expect. More than ever.

Who’s place in the squad does he take ? Winks ? As I don’t see him as a starter at all … why pay the money Villa would want for a fringe player ?

Good. Whilst he does have ability he’s a sly player putting horrid late challenges in that I dislike. Looking to hurt players but in a cowardly way. A bit like Charlie Adam.

Would command a hefty fee.

May as well throw a bit more in the pot and get Bissouma.
We’d more than likely have to throw significantly less in the pot to get Bissouma with him having 1 year left. He’ll go for just north of 20m I think

Would be decent if he was a free agent, could cover/rotate with anyone but they will want too much for him. No chance this one.

Still a waste of a thread - but my Villa mates all say he's shite and we're welcome to him.

Just like all my Wolves mates did, when we were linked with Doherty, Nuno & Traore.

But by all means keep posting here, about something that won't happen because his agent spoke to the Daily Mail.

Could you please ask your mates what players are not shite, and pass the info on to Conte?
