 Now, that's something I've missed. You'd not hear that from Alan Curbishley. Awesome.

On the other hand this is drivel.

When he came to England it was as an assistant coach. Either he should have been working for Jacques Santini or he means when he was made Manager, which was months later and so he is re-painting history. Not that he shouldn't be allowed a little editorialising but let's call it what it is. And it shows a character not unprone to making himself look better and more charismatic/able than he is. Rather like Harry some might say.

Walsall...not the best of places...

The Walsall comment really lightened my mood this morning when defective Victoria line trains were doing their best to dampen it.

There's a video I saw long time ago, Jol end of season Q & A and in it he said

" I came here and Daniel told me, we think Jaqques will do but don't worry if he doesn't you'll be the boss afterwards" or something along those lines!

With him in charge we played the shexiest football I'd seen us play - The Tottenham way, score 4, let in 3.

We scored and conceded lots of goals at times but it certainly wasn't scintillating football to watch most of the time.entertaining yes breathtaking football definitely not.

Jol could play very dynamic football, but I would say he often tailored his game to the strength of the team. Robinsons foot to Midos head or Berbatovs chest.. This stretched defences and opened the wing for Lennon.

Harrys problem
Gomes foot ball falls just inside the semi-circle of the halfway line .. easy to defend

tactic one- robbo punts long to mido who knocks it down to defoe

from kick off- back pass to dawson who punts it long to mido

the football was ok sometimes but there was far too much long ball for my taste, more so than the period when crouch was a main stay under harry

Spot on. People confuse scoring and conceding goals with playing lovely football

SPurs under Jol, like under rednapp and most other mamger we've had (hoddle and Ramos aside) played a mixed bag of football. There were several games under jol where our pass, moveemnt and skill was mostly on the deck and good to watch. there were several where we went long. No way we could ever be called a direct or long ball team though.

It's probably been said elsewhere but Jol has vastly improved as a manager since leaving; from what I have seen he focused on his weaker aspects (Defensive balance etc.) and improved them dramatically abroad. Will be interesting to see if those improvments translate to the premiership, hope they do and best of luck to him.

Gotta admire a manager that knows his weaknesses and works on them rather than moan. Hope he comes back one day :p

Agreed although i would say we were more direct under jol than others.it just grates me a little when some have remembered it as free flowing barca esque football as it certainly wasn't

Still love the Big Man just as much as I did when he was at the Lane and would happily see him back at the Lane at the drop of a hat
