Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has claimed he’s a big fan of Erik Lamela following his performance in the FA Cup on Tuesday night.

I know. It was very encouraging last night except obviously the frustration of not killing off the game. What was all that stuff the other day about Lamela and Lo Celso lacking the intensity required? They, along with Tanganga were the best players on the pitch last night and put in a proper shift IMO.

You'd think that Jose would be working to get players away from too much of that. It'll be interesting to see the difference after a full preseason.if we played it simple, no flicks and Sonny passed the ball it would have been
That was all to do with fitness, and tbf they did tire considerably towards the end of the second half. I'm not surprised he's given them fair time to get up to level, considering how long they were out. He's now got a considerable selection headache now though. I doubt either will start at the weekend. What was all that stuff the other day about Lamela and Lo Celso lacking the intensity required? They've both been building up match fitness after injuries and Lo Celso adapting to a new team and league. What was all that stuff the other day about Lamela and Lo Celso lacking the intensity required? Mourinho needs to watch his words, some of SC's most knowledgeable have gone on for ages about how he's not good enough. If he wants to put his word against SC powerhouses like Nebby, Francis Gibbs et al - then on his head be it.
Very brave.
I think he was referring to the Liverpool match that Lamela could only do 20 mins and GLC couldn't yet play a game like that at high intensity for 90 miniutes (probably due to lacking match fitness due to injuries and a disrupted pre-season and adpating to a new team and league).I know that but didn't Mourinho say just a few days ago that Lamela could only do 20 minutes and GLC was way off what we needed. Might be wrong but that's what I think he was saying.
Lamela gets so many injuries because he is all blood and thunder. The way he jumps in to tackles in matches is the same in training. Needs to know when to push it and when not to. Hard because you don't want to coach that side out of him.I think he was referring to the Liverpool match that Lamela could only do 20 mins and GLC couldn't yet play a game like that at high intensity for 90 miniutes (probably due to lacking match fitness due to injuries and a disrupted pre-season and adpating to a new team and league).
For Lamela this is just standard procedure especially with a player who's had so so many injuries you have to be super careful with them in managing their comeback so often that'll mean 3-4 sub appearances of 20-30mins and building fitness in training, then in a slightly 'easier' game home to Mboro Lamela can be given 70-90 mins, i very much doubt he'll be able to start against watford though i could be wrong.
For GLC its different playing Mboro compared to Liverpool and perhaps he's not quite up to match fitness and sharpness to play the likes of liverpool just yet.
Thats how i'd see it anyways.
Agree. How do you see Lamela’s progression has been? For me he’s really improved year on year from a fairly young raw talent who made too many fouls and who’s decision making wasn’t the best and who was a little weak, he now barely makes any fouls and is an expert in winning the ball back in dangerous areas, he’s much much stronger he’s clearly bulked out and his decision making has improved, it’s no coincidence the season we chased Leicester down he was a key player for us with him dele kane on breakaway attacks and I think Jose will use him similarly as he’s a good ball carrier in his unorthodox dribbling style.Lamela gets so many injuries because he is all blood and thunder. I reckon francis gibbs was kieran trippier, he loved that guy, and since trips has gone to atletico, ive not seen his mad ravings.
That wouldn’t be a first here, there was a poster called “Viola Spur” who was Giovanni dos Santos.
