Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham have been placed on alert after the failure of Valencia star Juan Bernat to agree a new contract.

The versatile left-sided player was a key man for Valencia last season and they are desperate to keep him at the club.

But, according to Superdeporte, the Spain Under-21 international's contract wrangle could make him available at the right price.

Seville are one of the leading Spanish sides who would like to snap him up and Manchester United were keen admirers when David Moyes was in charge at Old Trafford.

But the big English trio of Tottenham, City and Liverpool are all now expected to make a move for the player who is happiest on the left wing, but can also play at left back

Yeah I like him very much, very good skills going forward, still has some learning to do defensively but looks a very good option and one that can comfortably play on the wing or at full back

Could certainly 'pool viewing him as a cheaper alternative to Moreno. Good little player this one, would love for us to get him if we can.

Would suit Pochettino's system to a tee

Agreed. Very complete wingback for a young guy on the smaller side. Puts up some outstanding numbers in defense, but has the touch to even maneuver in tight spaces in the box and the pace to make those spaces more open when he gets there.

Totally.. & even though he could still work on his defending he is still better than Moreno defending.

Interesting that Soldado could play a part in his thinking one way or the other
I should imagine if Bobby is happy enough to stay he would be happy enough to encourage Bernat to join us. I just don't know how happy he is at the club right now

I can't imagine he'd have any personal ill feelings towards the club. He's had a rough time in England between the miscarriage and loss in confidence, but we really did give him a pretty substantial chance for a misfiring striker given our aspirations and other talents available at the position. In fact, we gave him longer than Norwich did with van Wolfswinkel or Saints with Osvaldo, who were also record signings at one time this past summer, and they didnt have quite the same demands as we place on our players.

So while I've no doubt he may be homesick and possibly even hope for a move back to Spain, I also have no doubt such an experienced professional bears the club any ill will whatsoever.

No I don't think he has any ill will as such, but a bit like going on holiday, you have a great holiday you recommend it to others, you have one where your car breaks down, the Germans have nicked all the sun beds and Luis Suarez is spreading terror swimming around in the sea then you might not be keen to recomend it to others

I like Bernat quite a bit. View him as a Coentrao-lite given Coentrao obviously plays LB but he also has the ability to play further up the pitch (as he did for Benfica and at times Real Madrid. Bernat would be a great way to bring depth to multiple positions of need and in turn streamlining the squad a bit.

I think Coentrao is significantly stronger (also significantly bigger) in the tackle, but Bernat has a better touch. Coentrao in offense seems to me to use his ability in crossing a bit more than Bernat likes to attack the box with his dribbling. Nonetheless, I think that's still a very good comparison.

You really think he gives a shit how Soldado feels at the Club? If only players were like that, but they're not, pay him what he wants and he will come. Its as simple as that.

That and play time. I can't imagine he'd feel like it would be too much of an uphill battle to find a spot on the left with how our current squad shapes up.

Not entirely true, since we likely wouldn't be (and aren't in this case) the only club pursuing the player. Players ask former teammates (as Eriksen asked Vertonghen about us: http://www.tribalfootball.com/artic...fluence-tottenham-choice-3978785#.U6r7bPldWSo) and compatriots all the time about clubs they're considering just to get another opinion.

Now this is much, much more of a prevalent factor.

Bernat "Whats it like at Tottenham?"
Soldado "It's shit, I only scored 2 goals and then I got dropped"
Bernat "I better not sign that 40k a week contract that will set me and my family up for life then, cheers for the advice bro"

NAH!

Lol.

That's not what I'm saying though my friend. Take for instance if he's considering offers from multiple clubs (as he inevitably will be), all of roughly the same salary rate due to market value. Therefore, in weighing up these options, as any professional would considering multiple job offers, they reasonably ask people they know or have a connection to for their opinions in experience with those positions. Happens on a daily basis amigo.

Fair point, although in this case I dont see how Soldado can really have an opinion on how it will be under Poch. I suppose Bobby could offer advice on what London is like to live in, but we already know its one of the top most desirable places footballers want to come to, so I dont see that having any bearing really.

Absolutely true. All he can really say at this point is his impression of the city, the club as a whole, and his interaction with the other players. But you're right, arguably the most important point topic is impossible to cover since Soldado has no more experience with it than Bernat or Maradonna.

It's never normally that simple though is it. He had a lot of respect for Soldado at Valencia, he's a good player, he could have a few options offering similar money.
So yes I do think it can make a difference because it's rarely a straight choice.

I always laugh when newspapers say we're on "alert" or even better "red alert". I just imagine sirens going off, people frantically typing and making phone calls and running around in all directions.
