If he really wants Barca or Madrid, surely it makes sense for him to just wait a year rather than signing for us and getting tied down to an unescapable 5 year Levy contract?

Would love him to come to us, but from his POV surely it makes sense to just stay put a bit longer and get the move he actually wants.

Only way I can see it happening is it is if Paratici works his magic and really sells him a dream off the back of all the other signings we're making, the stadium, Son/Kane, etc.

I'm getting some Eriksen vibes from Real Madrid here. If I'm remembering correctly, Real Madrid kept giving Eriksen's reps some encouragement that they were interested when they really weren't that interested (or at least not enough to meet our asking price). So, Eriksen kept waiting for the offer from Madrid that never came, in the meantime turning down contract offers from us and possibly not pressing hard for transfers elsewhere. I could see Madrid playing a similar game with Kounde, telling his reps they are interested but with no plan for how to meet Sevilla's asking price. But it could be enough to tempt Kounde into waiting around a year for an offer, even if one never materializes.

It's a nonsense article written by a football.london journalist purely for clicks, it's nothing but conjecture by the writer.

Articles from Spain are still suggesting Sevilla want a Kounde and Sanchez + cash swap deal to happen.
Presumably this tweet can be confirmed or as you claim it is nonsense?

Romano's tweet read: "Agreement reached today between Sevilla and Espanyol for Sergi Gomez, now it’s paperwork time. The centre-back joins Espanyol on a permanent move, done deal."
"Sergi Gomez will sign as new Espanyol player until June 2024 + option to extend until 2025."

He was talking about them signing Gomez meaning they are not selling Kounde pal.

I believe he meant Gomez leaving doesn't mean Kounde is 100% staying.

Yes, that's what the article implied

If and it's a big if we do a deal for Kounde it will not in jeopardy because Gomez has left.

Firstly the deal being discussed relies 100% on Davinson Sanchez going the other way. So they would replace Kounde anyway wouldn't they?

Sevilla cannot replace Gomez with Sanchez as they do not have a pot to piss in. Hence desperate to do a swap deal + cash with us.

Romano tweet is nothing to do with Kounde not leaving because of the deal.

I do wonder who our backup to Kounde is. Hopefully Lacroix even though Wolfsburg seem intent on playing hardball.

But all other links have gone quiet.

There are actually multiple reasons why they would like our deal.

- Firstly the true value of the deal is likely in excess of what Real Madrid would likely pay in straight cash.
- Secondly the part exchange element of the deal means they can save on the sell on fee to Bordeaux, and likely also could lead to tax savings.
- Finally it sounds like Sanchez has extra suitors, if the swap deal doesn't happen it could lead to a bidding war for Sanchez which means they could have to pay more for him or miss out altogether.

With that said I fully expect the player to stay put regardless of the pressure being put on to him. Even if he doesn't get the move this year I'm sure there'll be suitors next year too.

Yet as we saw with Gil, a new one, that nobody knows about, could pop up at any time.

I think we need to concentrate at moving a few out before we can afford a second centre back anyway.

I wouldn’t be averse to a HG player being sought - someone like Coady at Wolves, or even Dunk.

Most reports say no, that they are happy with Militao, Nacho and Alaba

I hope you're right. I also don't think they have the money. They deffo want to get Mbappe at some point.

Still not convinced this means Kounde chooses us though.

God bless you PT but I don't think you'll get many takers for Dunk as an alternative to Kounde in here mate.
