Militao & Nacho were supposedly really good down the stretch which gave Madrid the confidence to move forward letting Varane & Ramos go.That and they have three main CBs plus I think I read earlier they want to bring through youth to fill it out? Not entirely sure, but either way Kounde wouldn't be a starter I don't think.
It’s that midfield base I’m talking about.Hojberg, Skipp, Lo Celso and N'dombele are all ball playing CM's, especially the last two. Winks and Sissoko are the only side to side passing midfielders in the squad.
If we keep Kane & bring in Romero & Kounde top 4 should be achievable.Best hope is that if Kounde sees Varane leaving Madrid but still doesn't get the call then he'll realise that won't be happening this summer and will listen to Paratici/Monchi persuading him to leave and join us.
Bung him a nice 100k+ a week for 5 years and sell him our ambition of getting CL football again next season and maybe he'll think about it.
Hopefully with the Varane deal in motion this will give Kounde the clarity that Madrid aren't coming for him.Thfc Blog @TheThfcBlog

I think any of Dier/Rodon/Tanganga would be fine in a back three alongside Romero + Kounde, but a liability in a back four alongside only one of the two.Yep. Do we really want to handicap Romero by playing Dier or Rodon next to him? They just aren't in the same class.
If we signed Romero and one other top CB, I couldn't care less if we signed nobody else this window. It would transform our prospects. I just feel even Romero on his own isn't enough to fix us, because we will still have a massive weakness on the other side.
We do have some precedent in doing this though with Lo Celso & Ndombele. Now granted that was a different economic environment (sort of) and those 2 were more expensive.Signing Romero AND Kounde feels like the too good to be true portion of the window. Sounds like we'll know sooner rather than later considering the noise that Madrid have no interest in signing a defender.

Most clubs across Europe are struggling for cash but putting that to one side Sevilla are not labouring under the impression that Kounde is going to spend his career with them, they know he'll be leaving soon and they also know they aren't going to get a sweet deal like the one we're offering them again. They sell Kounde get money in the bank and an established international replacement for him in Sanchez all wrapped up in a neat little bow, it's beautiful.Couple of points
Are Seville struggling for cash? Is that why they are clearing out their big players?
Maguire is an awful CB but thankfully he is the top man at Utd and unlikely to be dropped. That means no free spot for Kuande.
Hopefully if we do seal the Romero deal we can come back to him and see if he's more interested in playing with one of the best young CBs in the world.Romano was saying that Kounde just flat out wasn't interested because we're not in the CL, but that he could still move to the Prem this summer.
Get the feeling Chelsea might be involved in this, they play three at the back and have been suspiciously quiet thus far.

I like how it is wanted and not wants..... Let's hope this means with real not interested he sees us as the next best option!
