....we continue to play like this for the rest of the season.
We fluke (other fans words, not mine) every game 1-0, managing to overhaul Pool, and finish 4th.
Sherwood keeps his job, we get CL.

Next season starts, and it's exactly the same, but we keep getting those results while playing like a bunch of strangers.

How do you feel?

No. You have to swap her for Susan Boyle.

Which is a bit like what we are experiencing with managers really.
I wouldn't be happy, I would be proud but I wouldn't look forward to the football and enjoy it like I have and used to

To many ifs and buts.

I have faith in our ability to play like a team if we could have more than 6 months as the team we are now to settle.

Yeah cause 4th is so great and all

Agreed..............we've done the whole 4th thing, celebrating like we won the league and all that. It's time to aim higher, can Sherwood achieve that? I don't think so. Sherwood has shown that he hasn't got the tactical skills yet to get us there. His idea of only playing players he knows is killing us. I think he likes the idea of having as many english players in the first team and that might just be his downfall.

Having said that, I'm a Spurs supporter and Sherwood is the Spurs head coach so my support is there regardless. I do hope that he changes my mind come the end of the season and make me proud to say we promoted a young British manager from within

"we've done the whole 4th thing"

Wow. We've done it twice, and once it meant nothing

It's an intriguing idea that we've somehow ticked that off our list though

I asked the same question when we were getting results but playing badly under AVB. The general consensus was that if we carried on playing the way we were then we'd end up losing loads of games so the question didn't make sense.

I'm assuming the position is the same now.

But it doesn't work like that. We played badly and won 1-0 today, but we played well and smashed Swansea and Stoke. We played badly and got rightly spannered by City.

So the reality is that we'll play well in some games, and mostly get results, but sometimes we'll play well and not get the result we deserve. Other times, we'll play like a bunch of t***s but still nick the points and other times we'll do the same and get our asses handed to us.

The table doesn't lie at the end of the day and both AVB and Sherwood have made us the 5th best team in the country so far. The likelihood as i see it is that this is our most likely finish this season.

I think a real experienced manager is needed to mould what is a collection of considerable individual talents into a really good team who can really push on into the top 4.

I think AVB and Sherwood were too inexperienced for a club of our ambitions and a squad of our quality. I think Sherwood is doing better than AVB, but he's got almost 10 years more experience.

The difference back then was AVB had had 18 months, 2 x pre seasons to get his plan across. For me, and I can't speak for everyone, it felt as though we were going backwards, however I still would have given him until the end of the season. Tim has had two months, no pre season, back to back games over christmas and New Year, a multitude of injuries, so no tikme whatsoever to put any kind of plan into place.

I certainly wasn't a fan of the 'Turgid' (TM Bus Conductor) football on show yesterday, and it hasn't been great for the last couple of weeks. But I do think yesterday was more about the result.

However, I don't think Tim will be here in the summer, 4th or not.

That would mean no meaningful signings in the summer; together with naive tactics, an early exit from the CL. Our star players then queue up to go, and in about 18 months we'll be back to be a mid-table side.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

......and we don't have a manager that won loads of trophies for us before that we can go back to.

Aim higher? All very nice in theory, but not gonna happen unfortunately. When you look at our finances, 4th place is punching above our weight. Its difficult to achieve much more when other teams can spend £30m on a player at will. If we can maintain top four, get the new stadium, we might have a chance in the future.
