Easing benny back slowly, Jan was ill before the game.

Ah cool. Cheers mate. Hard to keep Verts out of the team, thought there must have been a good reason. Nice to see Disco back on the pitch, hopefully he will get some form back, him and Bale have a great understanding.

Naughton did well but left the flank open for the Man Utd goal. Can't blame anyone 1 individual though for the goal. Cross was good and Van Persie is deadly with his left foot & left side of head. Shit on the right side though ;-)

Fucking hell. He misplaced pretty much every pass for the first twenty minutes, was the most at fault for their goal out of all of our players and got hooked after 60 minutes and that is 'having another good game' according to some.

Fuck my old boots.

Not quite getting your Naughton vibes Bear, not for one minute do I think he is the answer at all but think he has been pretty competent with his run in the side, and playing LB too which completely changes the dynamics of your role when you are used to playing RB and are right footed.

FYI, in the first 20 minutes Naughton completed 7/9 passes.

As I said, misplaced pretty much every pass...

The thing with that is, all stats can be made to look good. Smashing the ball against someone's shin Palacios style counts as a 'completed pass' mate.

Competent at best I have no problem with, it's this hero worship while Walker gets all the kicks that frustrates the hell out of me.

And he has played most of his recent career at left back, were you at the Coventry game? If anything I thought he looked completely out of place at right back in that game.

He was very guilty of cutting in on his right and sending that same over hit lofted through ball to Defoe over and over again. That said I'd rather wait til he gets a run on the right before judging him.

That's exactly what I saw too.

This is a hard one. He has been much better over the past few games but he not a left back, so did his best and credit him for that.

Benny is just a must for me - KN will be a great squad backup for both full back slots if does not mind bench time.

If we could keep them all happy I would like to see Walker/Naughton & Benny/Rose*. Great full back team - * Vertongen also.

I personally don't hero worship Naughton (does anyone really?), I think he's played well generally with the occasional 'moment' chucked in defensively but think Walker is edging him in that respect although since we've started pressing forward more recently the individual defensive errors have cut out quite a bit as we have the ball and initiative most of the game. Offensively Naughts doesn't have the gas that Walker does and playing on the left means he doesn't get wide and overlap much like Walker can, but he has played some nice incisive passes like the Villa one. Considering the first time I saw Naughton was when he played against Arse in the League Cup and he genuinely looked like he needed to be introduce to what the round white thing was I think he's shown himself to be a decent performer, albeit one that isn't a long term prospect in a top side like we want to be.

And comon, 7/9 passes is 77% which is hardly heinous, and it actually dropped to 74% which is not awful but I accept not good enough, although BAE coming on and treating us to a typical mixed bag and 8/16 passes was worse - his career summed up in the moment he controlled the ball ala Berbatov as it dropped from the heavens, then passed the ball straight out of play ala Huddlestone.

Speaking of which, Hudd's cameo of 6/10 passes was particularly special, the highlights being spreading the play to one of our ballboys, then a lovely panicked toepoke pass that found a red shirted target. Beckenbaueresque.

That made me shit myself when I saw that, he looked up and measured a pass to Lennon straight out of play. It was genius.

i thought that was Naughton's poorest game for us by far. I still think he's a better footballer than Walker though but then i just don't see what the fuss is about with Walker
