i thought that when kaboul cleared against boa morte it struck his arms, and they werent protecting his face they were out to block, if a defender did that in a penalty area, attackers would be calling for a penalty??

We already have a Kaboul thread, and whether or not the ball struck the Dead Snake on the arm, it was a truly pathetic attempt at a clearance.

A bit harsh. If he was trying to do something clever or poncy then it would have been pathetic. If you look, teamates weren't exactly busting a gut to offer him options and all he did was try to whack it out of harms way. There was still luck involved in that a) the refr didn't give hand ball b) it bounced kindly into Boa Morte's path c) our other defenders mostly awol.

Yes, he definately worries me too at times, but I would love to see him played at RCB next to a quality, experienced LCB and a better defensive RB. Because he and Dawson make errors but at least Kaboul has redeeming features like reading the game, good on the ball, bit quicker.

One thing that this really hits home though is all the wankers that have knocked Gardner over the years. I think, mostly through injury, we have lost the services of two really good CB's (RCB & LCB) in Gardner & King. I really wish the pair had been available more the last 3 years because if they were I would pick them every time ahead of all of our others. I always rated Gardner, and when he first played thought he had the potential to be very, very good. An injury plagued career has ruined that potential but he's still better than dawson.

it is a shame about king and gardner, plus with either of them they could have helped kabouls introduction into the premiership go a bit smoother, you can see hes lost all confidence. he will become a great player

I really don't think it's harsh, B-C. True, just about everyone else bar Dawson or Robbo had gone upfield and no-one was killing himself to hurry back, but he had a fair bit of time to make a decision, dithered, and then rushed it. He was playing in Ligue 1 time, not EPL time.

I'm certainly not going to write him off; as I said in the other thread, it's not his fault he has a whopping price tag to justify, it's not his fault he's been chucked in at the deep end, and it's not his fault Dawson has failed to take a lead. I've defended him a lot over the past two seasons, but he should have stepped up and taken command in King's absence. He hasn't. Captain material? My arse.

And I agree about Gardner. He could have been very good indeed if it hadn't been for the constant injuries. But he's had just 13 more starts than Dawson, which is nigh-on unbelievable considering he's our longest-serving after King.
