Well they've got Thiago at the back for next season. I'm interested to see how good he'll be.

They definitely need to bring in several new faces though. Hopefully they'll spend the Kaka money on new players and not to balance the books. They'll have to sign a big name though after letting Kaka go.

That is exactly the problem they have had though, they've been just signing big names. Shevchenko, Ronaldinho, Beckham, Zambrotta. They needed to sort out their squad last summer and instead just got in the big names who in the case of the first two have contributed very little.

Even without Kaka and other big names they are still a huge draw for players. Both Dzeko and Zhirkov have said Milan would be a dream of theirs to play for and they could do a lot worse starting with those two. I hope they can keep Pato though as he could be one of the players they build the new generation of Milan with.

I think they really should start a new era of Milan football. Sure they will keep some of the names, but if they make lots of money on a few other players they could make some wise additions and have a very strong, powerful and dynamic group as opposed to a talented but aging cast who can't live with any of the top European sides and are miles behind Inter.

They could snap up a couple of players on the cheap from the Madrid sale, like a Sneijder or VDV and I wouldn't be surprised to see them look to South America again to try and snap up so lesser known talent. I'm sure Leonardo knows some players over there.

I totally agree with you there IOMLS. But i do think they will look to appease the fans with a big name replacement for Kaka. They do have a great chance to build new bridges though. The squad they have is perfect for bringing a few youngsters into aswell. Imagine what a player could learn fron the likes of Pirlo, Gattusso and Seedorf. With Leonardo now in charge, they need to start a new era.

Has Hernanes left Sao Paulo yet? If not I think he'd be a very good signing for Milan now, didn't Leonardo originally scout Kaka for them? I'm sure he'll have some very good players to come in. Definitely an error letting Gourcuff go though.

Gourcuff always looked a bit awkward at Milan, not sure the reason why. Maybe he wasn't suited to Italian football (full backs sitting back, deep defensive lines etc.), maybe he was a little homesick or maybe he just wasn't ready for the pressure of being at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

I think Milan will be able to move on from not keeping Gourcuff.

Def, managed to find that video Pep played to the players before the CL final, it's in the Barca thread

Also, how big are the two El Clasico games going to be next season?!?! It's always been the biggest game in football but now it is a whole different level

Nice one Donny, will watch that on my lunch break today.

No doubt Real are looking to reclaim top spot in Spain and europe, they've been dissappointing for a while now.

I still think they will struggle to play the type of football Barca do but Pellegrini is a very good coach. But can he manage these superstars? Time will tell!

Well he famously fell out with Riquelme at Villarreal but they continued their success after Pellegrini got rid of him. If they sign Villa then their front line is unbelievable. But out of their 4 defenders i would say only Sergio Ramos is worth his salt as a top defender and even he can be erratic. Alonso alongside Diarra in the centre would be a top central midfield but they need a Vidic/Carvalho in the centre of that defence and a Clichy/Cole at LB

True they did continue their success after he benched and sold Riquelme, I think that Villarreal probably played the 2nd best passing football to Barca in La liga. But obviously pressure and expectation in Madrid this season is going to be massive, really immense. Although they finished 2nd last season they were firmly in Barca's shadow, lost 6-2 at home, Barca broke all kinds of records. From a Madrid point of view they cannot let something like this happen again, and these signings will literally blow expectation through the roof.

gourcuff will be one of the best players in the world in a few years time. he's solely responsible for undermining lyon's supremacy. the ligue 1 player of the year will one day win the world cup for france.

Just found the answer to my own question, it seems like Dunga thinks Milan should sign him too:

"I have a soft spot for Hernanes. He has [Gennaro] Gattuso’s grit and [Andrea] Pirlo’s feet. They should sign him immediately.”

Milan have been monitoring Hernanes’ progress for several months and his valuation is estimated at around €8m."

de la Red has been ruled out for the season, i would say that means his career is over which is a tragedy. Expect their interest in Alonso to escalate now
