Kane better than Bale

The thing that always impressed me about Bale was that he improved significantly every season. He seemed determined, through hard work and good discipline to fulfil his potential and not rest on his laurels. If Harry Kane can apply the same principles and stay clear of serious injuries then he will do very well indeed.

I'd sell him for 87 mill, although like with Bale, I'd probably still end up regretting it.

They haven't included his ability to at least match Bale in lame headline punnery (Hurri-Kane vs Bale-d Out etc.)

For those that didn't click, here's Shoot's summary:

Gareth Bale:
Favourite TV show: Hill Street Blues
Food: Steak and chips
Musical Artist: Luther Vandross
Car: Vauxhall Chevette

Harry Kane:
Favourite TV show: Only Fools And Horses
Food: Curry and pint
Musical Artist: The Eagles
Car: Ford Tempo

Subjective, yes, and certainly close, but I can see how they just about gave Kane the nod.

He is better than Bale was at 21 but Bale rose to an insane level in his final season with us.
He's not better than Bale was at 21.Bale was much better. We have to understand that Bale is, for us, probably a once-in-a-generation player. There will be very few times where one of the best players on the planet, and someone who may become the best in the world, plays for us. I can't see Kane ever reaching that level. BUT it doesn't matter if that is the case as you can still be an incredible and unbelievable player without being one of the best in the world :)

This is part of a series. Shoot has already proven with stats that Naughton is better than Perryman, Adebayor is taller than Barmby, AvB is hairier than Redknapp and Rose is a thorn by any other name.
I preferred Perryman ;)

I've been thinking about this a lot watching Kane this year. I now live in los Angeles, and a few years ago spurs came and played a pre season game at the galaxy. There was an open training session the day before, which I went to.

It was early in AVB era and a bit was made of them being on made to do double sessions in the Californian heat.

What struck me most about the open session was at the end. Despite knowing another session was up coming, 3 outfield players stayed out on the pitch for a good 45 mins after everyone else had left, practicing 1 - 2s, shooting, and free kicks. They were Bale, Townsend, and Kane. Townsend hasn't broken through at that point and i left that day full of optimism for Townsend and Kane, based on their seeming commitment and eagerness to grab every chance to learn from a world class bale.

I know Townsend flatters to deceive somtimes, but it's easy to forget how much on the fringe he was not so long ago. I think having seen what I did that day, I am way more inclined to think that both of them have what it takes to continue to improve with good coaching.

I thought Bale was still very hit and miss at that age. He didn't seem to know his best position. It took him a while to truly understand the role of a left winger, expecially defensively where I think he struggled. He also struggled when roaming and only really hit world class level in his final half season with us. Although he did come of age in the Champions League season, the hat trick against Inter was a big turning point for him and he just got better from then on. I think he was around the same age Kane is now so from this point he excelled and we can only hope Kane makes similar leaps in improvement. Who knows maybe the double against Chelsea will be the making of Kane as the hat trick was for Bale in the San Siro.

There is no doubt Bale is an unbelievable player and it is annoying when players get compared to him expecially when they play a completely different role. I already think Kane has more to his game than Defoe ever had and he'll only get better. What I love most about Kane is his hunger. He wants to improve all the time and that in itself will make him a top player.

To be honest, I detest any comparison between Kane and players like Bale. It just puts unnecessary pressure on him and it's too early to make any sort of comparison anyway. I knew it would get out of hand but I suppose it's unavoidable.
