I don't think Honda can play the Modric role, he is too direct. The only players that could give us something close to Modric (and be attainable to us) would be Rakitic (Sevilla), Benat (Athletic) or Banega (Valencia). Otherwise, we will have to buy young and develop someone (like Muaniain).

My opinion of course.

er... Muniain... and you think Honda is too direct? Don't get me wrong I want this kid bad as he is amazing already in my eyes, but he is no Modders.

I think he could be molded into the Modric-type. He is only 20, he could pick up the cm position if he gained some discipline and didn't force things.

but he'd not be able able to use his pace and dribbling in that role which are 2 of his best assets.

What's wrong with being too direct ??? I think direct style will lead to more goals !!!

Would be a great move providing we could get good money for both Siggy and Lennon to make space for him.

I think Honda plays further forward for CSKA but in the Confederation Cup he certainly played as the guy to dictate tempo for Japan, he was used in a Modric type role.

Honda played a couple different positions mainly in CSKA I believed, think the first season there he played more of a holding or Modric role but since then he played more in the hole -- for that I could be wrong since I don't follow the Russian league. For Japan though, I don't think he's used in the 2 that much if at all; he's pretty much the VDV of that team, and the only reason Kagawa's playing on the left and not in his natural middle.

Honda's been a player that I want to be a spur since the last world cup and the whole time never thought it's remotely possible as he stated himself that he always prefer the more technical (or less physical) Spanish or Italian league. I don't know how reliable the source this time is so I'm not gonna do this to myself until he signs --- and I like Holtby and Siggy but that's no reason to pass a talent like Honda, let alone it's gonna be a free transfer. We just spent 100 mil and I think they will try everything they could to ensure at least a top 4 finish. I just hope that every game we don't win push our front office a bit more towards of keep spending in the winter window.

By spending just a little more this winter, they might not to worry about buying like this summer for a very long time.

We have to lose the starting 11 mentality and think like a club that is looking to compete for multiple trophies. We need to bring in quality players when we can. Depth is a good thing.
Love this attitude :) Plus hes left footed he may be a good fit for the wide left position. Hes a great player I want him nowwwww

Just a question why do we need to make space for him we need a big squad for one thing. Plus he has different qualities to siggy and lennon hes left footed for starters he'd be a great "ADDITION" to the team!!

Over Eriksen?

Over Sigurdsson probably. I think it might make way for Siggy to be sold, maybe Lennon as well.

-------------------Soldado/Hernandez
Honda/Chadli---Eriksen/Holtby---Townsend/Lamela

That right there would be a top quality attacking set of players.

Like American said, time to get out of the "starting 11" mentality. SAF never played the same team in back to back games.

Because it is one thing to have strength in depth and another to have a squad so over stacked that young players will never get a chance and having some established players starting to get disharmonious due to a lack of opportunities

I hope this doesn't happen with Holtby, Eriksen seemingly got a start last game because he is Eriksen, rather than give a start to Holtby who was bursting out of the bubble to make the side, and had decent form, something AVB needs to address, play players when confidence is high.
Would rather have seen a what Holtby could do with Soldado than Eriksen could do with Defoe.

Despite limited knowledge of him, that Youri Tielemans might be a fit for that role as well. Albeit a very, very young option. I've been trying to locate some match downloads for him. I'm trying to find one for the Olympiacos CL match but it's proving difficult so far. He played 90 minutes in that one.

Put up a request on http://www.reddit.com/r/footballdownload . Ppl normally respond to requests rather quickly

Is that the game Anderlecht lost 3-0?

I don't understand why some of you are going on and on about the need of finding a Modric type of player....when Spurs' already got 2 quality play makers in Holtby and Eriksen. No, they are not Modric-es but Modric is gone, get over it. Eriksen and Holtby - when given time - can turn out to be just as us"ueful" - or even better - than Modric.
I remember plenty of times when Modric could not open up tight defenses too, and his shooting - or lack or it - was really frustrating.
The play making spot, after the DMF spots, are my least concern right now.
If Honda joined it would be to play cup/Europ league games and to sell shirts in Nipon.
