You sound like quite the fan :p so you'd take him over any player in eredivisie?

You know, that's a tough one. There are a few players I obviously like there (Jordy Clasie, Bruno Martins Indi and Wilfried Bony) but none of them, bar maybe Bony, are ready to contribute from the moment they ink a deal with a team like us. Strootman is better than the Eredivisie. To me, he's proven that. He's ready for a bigger stage and his game just looks like it's tailor-made to be in a bigger league like the EPL.

Interesting the continuing CM links. Will there only be one incoming, or room for a couple when you take into account Parker, Huddlestone and Livermore could all be at risk.
We've had talk of Belhanda, then more recently Sergi Roberto from Barca, McCarthy and now Strootman.

If we can sell off Huddlestone, Parker and Livermore to fund a move for Strootman I'd be all for it. Bring Carroll into a more prominent role next season and bring Bibras Natkho in from Rubin Kazan as he should be fairly cheap given his contract expires in January 2014. We would probably have a net spend of around 10-12 mil in total (I think it will cost about 16m for Strootman, 6-7m for Natkho and maybe get around 12-14m total for the three outgoings, possibly more).

I think Mertens is close too given the right style of play, probably the Goons or Liverpool, Strootman i rate as a player that could get into every EPL squad..

Ah yeah, forgot about Mertens in that list. I don't know why he's waited so long to move. He's been ready for over a year now. If he played on a bigger stage I'm convinced just about every big club would be after him.

If he was making a name for himself in the Bundesliga then that move would have come sooner IMO, clubs seem very cautious about scouting from the Dutch league in recent years.

I could shop primarily there for our transfer window and get the most bang for our buck. So much good talent all over the pitch there.

Forgot all about this guy, how has he been this season? For a while I really wanted us to be interested in him but just assumed that as he didn't move last summer that he had a dip in form. He can't really be called a starlet anymore at 26.

Just a standard 15+ goals 15+ assists season for him. Maybe he just enjoys being so much better than the talent he faces or something. He's progressed past the talent in the Eredivisie.

This is what I thought, why does no one go in for him?? Makes no sense to me what so ever!

The likes of Strootman will probably stay at their clubs this summer. They don't want to jeopardy their place in the Dutch squad and missing the WC by moving abroad and possibly ending up on the bench like happened with Vernon Anita, van der Wiel, Urby Emanuelson etc.

Given that the last world cup the Dutch squad had the likes of Heitinga, Mathijsen, Van Bommel, Kuyt, de Jong, RVP, Sneijder, Robben, Boulharouz, Elia, Babel, KJH and VDV all playing abroad do you really think that it will make players turn down lucrative offers to play abroad if they get them ?

Those guys were already playing abroad, it's a big difference when you're still in Eredivisie and are about to move. Van der Wiel lost his place in the Dutch squad when he moved to PSG. Stekelenburg didn't play under LVG when he was sidelined at Roma.

Wasn't that more down to form though? I can understand the point about the possibility of a player taking a while to adapt to a new league and concerns about that maybe impacting their selection chances, but I would have thought most players look on a potentially good move positively in that it might give them a better chance of ensuring their place rather than negatively that they might not cut it

But Stekelenberg isn't that good anyway. I think most Dutch coaches have become used to watching their players playing abroad. I can't see how Strootman playing in one of the better teams in one of the top leagues in the world is going to have a negative affect.

Van der Wiel hasn't settled or performed well, neither has Stekelenburg. The Dutch coaches will be watching the Premier league and if a player like Strootman, who they'll be keeping tabs on, goes abroad and does well in a good EPL team he'll easily get noticed. The Dutch are very adaptable to playing abroad and their style suits most leagues, I'm sure he'll be fine.

Good player but not as creative as what AVB may be looking for if he is meant to play in a MF three

isn't that the point? if he does move and doesn't do very well/adapt, then he is in danger of not being selected for the national team. in holland he's almost assured of being one of the best players. it's not as if he's losing out by staying.
