I think Toby is fucking marvelous, but for King to be able to do what he did with practically no training and still put in those performances when clearly not match fit, was genius to be fair.

King.

If he'd had two knees, modern facilities and a team like this around him he'd be arguably the greatest of all time, up there with Baresi, Moore and Beckenbaur.

With one knee he was still miles ahead of every current centre back young or old. Incredible skill, vision, touch, pace to burn, perfect timing on the few occasions he had to tackle, almost never had to tackle because his reading of the game was spot on, won every header even against bigger opponents (and directed them as if it were his instep) and was strong as an ox.

That said, still love Toby, he's top class.

Even if Toby actually were a better player which as much as I rate him I don't think he is talent wise although both have an amazing ability to defend without fouling and Toby offers a great goal threat at the other end....I would still vote for Ledley.....legend!

King. He wasn't just a naturally great defender, he was a naturally great footballer, with unflappable composure, clairvoyant reading of the game, and unflinching bravery.

That run where he played 4 games in a row and got us into the CL... imperious.

Ledley is 35 now. If there was a God, he wouldn't have robbed him of his cartilage, and he'd be playing alongside Toby right now. Best defence ever.

Just cannot bring myself to put another player above ledders.

For a defender to be talked about as the best ever Spurs player should tell you just how good he was especially considering Spurs fans love a forward more than your average supporter.

Hypothetically speaking , if Mr A was to lead us to be prem champions and champs league win would we all feel the same ? LEDs was so good, yet hampered by his knee, a mirror of McGrath for Manu (without the huge drink problem ) . Yet all that said LK made it look so easy , even playing with the other shite around him at the time

Toby is gonna need 3-4 years at least of being the very best with some amazing moments including lifting silverware before he approaches King. If the best were to happen, then he could have a serious argument.

It's the thought that counts. Indeed. He had it all, including stupid speed to even get back and rectify his own mistake or just make up ground when the defence got bypassed.

That tackle is beyond ridiculous. In this team ledley wouldn't break a sweat. He once went 11 games at the beginning of a season without conceding a free kick! 11 bloody games without a single foul.

Just to point out I hoped this thread was about Burger King vs Toby Carvery. The other reason I voted for King.

King every day, that's not to say that Toby isn't a great player but he doesn't stand out as much as Ledley did.

Toby is consistently solid if not spectacular (exactly what you want from a defender) but the King was head and shoulders the stand out player.

The rose tinted glasses of history are probably at play but I still remember him bossing it against France for England. He read the game better than any player I've ever seen.

Surely being able to play two games a week is a significant advantage?

1v1 on their day it'd be a monster contest. Hard to pick.

King was quicker and a better tackler. Toby is slightly better with the ball at his feet. They are about equal with their positioning, anticipation, and heading. Overall I'd say King wins it by a nose but it's been a joy to watch two such naturally gifted players wear our shirt.

Not rose tinted glasses my friend, King had France in his pocket during that game, by far the best player on the pitch.

So, of course, he got dropped the very next game so that donkey Terry could play.

If Carling made Football managers...

We'd get ours from Fosters!
