Wonderful overhead kick from Suarez. Barcelona starting to come good at the right time.

In truth watching Bacalona and Real is like watching fixed horse race. the quicker La Liga sorts the TV money out correctly the better it will for all true football fans.

Just thinking. If La Liga does go with more equal distribution of TV rights. Add in the new premier tv deal, the fact that they might have to pay taxes (possibly losing their charitable status and the fact Spain income tax is 56%) and the banning of 3rd party ownership. Could we see a swing in power from La Liga's big 2 to the premiership? They will obviously still be huge but will have taken a big hit.

Just seen this.

It is beyond the pale - just don't understand why EUFA step in to hurry things along, it's is criminal!

Because Uefa are in a precarious position. If they exert too much influence and the big clubs don't like it, they'll just form a European Super league and run it themselves. TV deals and negotiations are handled by each league themselves anyway. The Spanish government have the power but don't want to piss off the supporters (I think 40% of Spanish either support Barca or Real). so have been sitting on it.

All the other teams need to do though is refuse to appear on tv. The only televised games then would be El Classico.

It's different in spain...even say if someone follows sporting gijon, real oviedo, Then they follow barca or real Madrid as a 2nd team... usually according to which side their family supported in spanish civil war...

not sure why everyone always talks about La Liga while conveniently ignoring the Premier League. 3 teams there have a genuine chance to win the league, and it's getting real close to a one-horse race here.

besides, even with the equal distribution of TV money here, clubs like Chelsea and Man City (the top two, funnily enough) get WAY more money than the established mid-table clubs, nevermind the paupers like Leicester and Burnley

Liverpool nearly won it last year
Last season Arsenal were close as well
We were closer to winning it 3 years ago than Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal
Man Utd use to be in the race before disappearing the last one and half seasons

Liverpool nearly won the Premier League, yet Atletico did win La Liga.

fact is, as much as people like to make out there's a 5/6 horse race for the league every year here, there are usually only 3 at most, and more often than not just 2 teams that can genuinely challenge. sure, you can make the argument that those teams change a bit more here than over there, but that is really only because of money...and LOTS of it. if not for Abramovic and Sheikh Mansour, Man U and Arsenal would in all likelihood still be dominating the title picture here. THAT'S what has created this illusion of competitiveness, way moreso than the TV money.

Yet in the last 10 years the only other team to challenge for the title has been Sevilla under Ramos. Only 4 teams have challenged for the title in 10 years.

The argument of you need money to challenge for the title is silly considering that Atletico only challenged for title because they spent shitloads of money they didn't have and had players they didn't own. Had atletico spent within their means they wouldn't of been near a title challenge so its the same there.

The reason they don't have a chance of challenging is because of the tv money.

Valencia have been taken over by a billionaire but if they don't qualify for the CL they are going to sell their players to make up for the loss. It says alot that the teams that finish 5 have to sell players every year to stay afloat not competitive, afloat.

There problem of oil money. Which in part is being addressed by FFP. If we could change the Champions League then we will be far more competitive.

The left winger for Athletic Bilbao.. I think it's Iyake Williams, though my spelling is probably off.
Anyone watched more of him? seems a good pacey direct player with good feet but I've only really seen him today as I haven't watched anything of Bilbao for a while.
Anyone know if he is decent generally or is he just having a good game?

He's just come in from the youth team in the last few games, having scored 12 in 16. I really like the look of him from what I've seen so far.

Barca are 3-0 up v 10 men, they are going top today, with the Classico coming up.

Messi missed a penalty but was allowed to retake.
