Don't buy into the he's still young from a foreign league etc. hazard from abroad similar age was a player immediately. It's not that I expect him to be brilliant every week, I could handle inconsistency, but I just can't see any clear sign of a real top player. He's had scant major impacts in any game of significance and no outstanding performance. I'm not writing him off, I'm just calling it as I see it now.

Hazard had had four full seasons with Lille. He didn't pick up a serious injury almost before his first season in the EPL got started, either.

Ridiculous quotes about Lamela in this thread. 2 points here, last season he was never fit, which is the main reason he was not selected. He has had a full pre season, and I thought he looked good for the first 30/40 minutes, bring on QPR.

No point getting wound up, I remember the famous Modric and Bale haters, look what happened? Modric is too lightweight, doesn't score enough blah blah. Bales a left back, has no space as a LM, has no dribbling, no right foot. Football forums are full of trolls.

He didn't play like he did in pre season but it just looked to me like he was trying too hard to force openings. The guy is clearly desperate to make an impact and do well for us so I think he just needs support and an arm around the shoulder from Poch who should tell him to calm down a little and play simple passes untill he get's used to the the tempo of the Premiership.

He must play against QPR, he needs a strong run of games. He hardly kicked a ball last season so he isn't going to set the world on fire in the early stages, but it is vitally important he keeps playing.

Every time he touches the ball you can see he wants to try something. His short interchanges in yesterdays game were quite good, but admittedly that is all he really did. But to slate him for a poor performance in a 10 man team is extremely unfair I think. He's 21 and had 3 different managers in just over a year, its going to take time for him to show what he can do, as we have been left to only flashes of his potential in pre season.

Poch needs to slowly work on him and build him up to full potential, he definitely has something about his game, its just up to our coaches and manager to get it built around him. He is a fantastic footballer something different to any world class players we have had before. Don't give up on him yet.

I don't think they're trolls. Think they're just people that love to slate players early, so that if they don't make it they can say "told you so".

I'm sure a few are trolls playing the long game, you do get them on forums. It would be funny if @Rob was one of them and this whole site was set up in preparation for a mega troll attack.

Lamela needs to play with players on the same wavelength, players like Solly and Ericksen who expect the unexpected. Yesterday he couldn't play that to the outside as Naughton was dumb and didn't offer him another avenue to play his little tricky passes, forcing him to play the ball inside all the time. And in the middle Ade was too clumsy and could not make the quick turns or sudden burst required to benefit from his passes.

Im not sure anyone knows his ideal position? He reminds me a bit of Henry when he first arrived as he was a wing forward and Wenger converted him to central target man. I think he could do the same but he needs to calm down a bit and not try to force things.

Problem yesterday is that both he and Eriksen drifted in too much and we had no width so everything became congested

Let me state first I am all for supporting lamela and want to give him time. For purpose of discussion, I am going to list down his strengths and weaknesses.

Strengths
1. Can spot a run
2. Moves forward to receive pass
3. Crossing (glimpse though)

Weakness
1. Pushed off ball too easily
3. Passing accuracy not there yet

Please add. Thank you.

So its Ade and Naughtons fault he kept giving the ball away? Right
No it wasn't your correct.
But how many player's have a 100% pass rate?
But Ade hardly helped the fluidity of the front 4 yesterday.
But we won and moving on to the next game.
If you don't rate Lamela fair enough.
Most of us do and are prepared to show patience.

There's no questions in my mind of Lamela's abilities all is needed is for him to be given time...the more games played the better he'll be.

I really think he's an interesting player. Undoubted talent. Great dribbling ability and good vision. The main problem is ball retention and picking the right choice. He has to keep it simple and pass to the player in space until the final third. When we're in the final third he can try the more risky pass or dribble.

He reminds me of the Spanish players a few years ago in that they trust their team mates so much that they'll pass to a player surrounded by three opposition players. However Lamela lacks the consistent passing accuracy and we haven't got that team understanding to pull it off at the moment.

I think he's got it, but he's a very different sort of player to Bale and Modric and Berbatov who I was convinced had it from day 1 despite many thinking they were flops.

Obvious he needs time. Last season should have been his adaptation season but we might a right mess of it and now we might have to wait a few months before he consistently performs at a high level.
