I am certain if he plays he will give a few of the city players the run around.

Must play in my personal opinion.

And i also think the longer we leave him on the bench the more fustrated the kid would get knowing that his last performances have been very good.

Take nothing away from townsend (if we are looking at a straight swap in positions that is) but there is a very important asset that erik possesses over andros and that is "cleverness".

Lamela has an excellent football brain and will always make something happen.

Townsend does have raw pace and will run at you for sure but against a team like man city you need more then that and i feel lamela has a few traits in his locker that will cause city problems.

IF he doesnt play ( i would not be suprised at all) i just really hope avb would bring him on with more then 20 mins to play.

I am a bit worried that Gaston Ramirez too came from Italy with a good reputation, and he has done poorly for Saints. Is the difference between the leagues that big perhaps?

The pace of the game is a big factor. Lamela has been probably caught on the ball more than any other player this season. He will adapt eventually. I can fully understand why AVB didn't throw him in straight away though. It could have negatively affected results and the players mentality if he didn't hit the ground running.

I won't be surprised or too upset if he doesn't get a start today, it would be quite a bit of pressure on a young player whose confidence seems rather fragile. He does deserve a chance, though, and if we're looking short on ideas I really hope we'll see him introduced around the hour mark.

I think keeping him benched much longer will also negatively affect his mentality as could throwing him in for the big games coming up if we lose them, that's why I think it was a massive mistake to not start him against Newcastle

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

The only way Lamela will adapt to the pace is to play, don't have a problem with slowly integrating him to the league but he hasn't had a minute since West ham which is a failure for me considering in some of those matches he would have been the better option.

Man city are more like a european opponent so i think it would suit him more then a more physical side.

Anyway, i had a dream we lost 12-11 to west ham at the mk dons stadium, make of that what you will :)

It's a very different league to have to adapt to. You get so much more time and space on the ball in Italy, but it's a lot more tactical at the same time. Harder to break defences down and can be like a game of chess at times. England is more about physicality and pace, and having to work with not as many touches. We close down a hell of a lot quicker over here and I think that's created a problem for these players. Lamela will learn though, he's very quick-thinking and has quick feet. He will come good.

I don't understand Avb's treatment of Lamela, he doesn't start him at home to Norwich,Swansea,West sham,Newcastle or any other prem match, but gives his first start against man city (with a 100% home record) and then starts him on the left which is not his best position. What kind of man-management is that?

Yesterday Lamela made some short, forward passes which he had no right to make, and that nobody else in our squad has the ability to do.

I think he could be our most important player come the end of the season, and the guy that finally gets Soldado scoring.

In terms of ability (not performance) I feel confident that he is our most talented player. Quite excited to see him settle in.

I agree 100%, but even if people dont there are not many other options so people moaning about his performances should just shut it now and get behind him. He is the most creative attacking player we have fit and now is the time to see what he can do with a run of games. But please for the love of god Andre dont play him on the left!!!!! At lest until Eriksen is back he should be our number 10.

There was one point in the first half on the edge of their box he showed some amazing foot work...nearly beat about three of them in a very congested little area...was like wow.

Need to be starting this kid every game from here on in. Looks the only one capable of sparking something.

Lamela needs more game time and with Eriksen.
Man city passed and moved yesterday.
We should do the same.
Lamela was the only one trying this.
Him erickson and holtby please and quick.

I ticked agree for the first bit, but I am starting to give up on Holtby. I hope he proves me wrong.
