Hardly supporting words are they though?

Considering he's one of our own players.

He might of well said 'I think he's shit'.

Hardly. Just being honest IMO. He's said he's been unlucky, he has. He said the Jury is still out, it is.

What would you have like him to say?

It certainly doesn't give the impression that he has been particularly close to Lamela during his rehab or really knows him as a player/person at all. Let's hope we actually have a manager soon.

Everyone has the potential to be the best until their career ends and they failed.

Even Lennon could have a blinder For 5 years and be remembered a legend.

I guess what I'm saying is potential is meaningless.
Lennon hasn't even got anywhere near Lamela's most productive season in terms of stats and he is 5 years his senior.

Your point is pretty weak, at least when using Lennon as an example.

I just don't understand how it is so hard to say something like,

'It's been disappointing for everyone that Lamela has been injured, he possess some fantastic qualities and we are looking forward to him being back and showing everyone what he is capable of.'

You know support one of the best young talents in world football that you 'manage' (loose use of the word..), rather than sound like you don't really care.

How is potential meaningless? That means that every young player would be bought and sold on a level playing field to an extent and anybody could be the next Messi or the next Nethercott...

This strikes me as Sherwood using Lamela as a way to get one over Baldini. Jesus - when he came out hammering the players after the Chelsea game, he did so because he believed it's what the fans wanted to hear. He thinks he's in tune with how we're all thinking - but then he can't pick up the desire from the fanbase for Lamela to play?!?!

As someone said before, big the kid up a little bit - rather than saying the jury is still out. Not seen enough of him Tim?!?!?!?! Last season in Serie A not enough for you?!!? You saw enough of Suzrez from a couple of games playing for Ajax to decide he wasn't up to it apparently . . . .well done on that one.

The guy's an idiot - not got his finger on the pulse at all, no matter what he says to the contrary

Perhaps he feels the hype has already hindered him? Maybe he wants to just let him quietly recover and not make a big deal. Do you know what he tells Lamela in private? Does it matter what he comes out and tells the media?

"I've not seen him."

Fuck.

Me.

It's happening again. I don't know how but it's fucking happening again!

I also like how in the same interview Tim says we could've done with some more goals and assists this season, and then says that it's good that he sent Hotby on loan as he is getting goals and assists for Fulham and it's making him better for Spurs next year.

Jesus wept.

In a way yes, because it has created more of a stir among fans and in the media already than just if he had just come out and been mildly positive about the player...

Potential literally means "might succeed"
Which can only mean there's a chance they won't succeed.
Just like everyone else.
I'm not saying lamela won't succeed. But making excuses for him time and again because he's got "potential" is just silly.

If he's still at spurs next season I'd expect to see a big improvement.
£30m is finished article or they're about money.

I'm refuse to be outraged by Tim. He clearly doesn't give a f*ck because he knows he won't be at the club by the time Lamela is fit.

Is anyone else struggling to comprehend this argument in regards to the negative of potential or whether it matters at all..? Because I won't argue my point if i'm just not understanding something..

Taraabt had potential according to most spurs fans. Despite looking exciting, he was dire.
Every week I listened to spurs fans saying he had so much potential.
He ended up in the championship.

Yes he's at Milan now but I'm sure they're a spent force and he'll not last long.

Having potential is meaningless unless you achieve success.

that jury line is absolutely woeful, has he seriously said that? you expect that from a fan looking in and spouting cliche nonsense but from the manager? :ROFLMAO: avb's treatment of lamela was god awful but at least he never came out with a line as stupid as that.

Ok, so he didn't come out and say "I love Lamela he's goingto be next Bale, mark my words"

But he hardly slated him either.

As JustSignal said, he knows he's gone so why should he go around biggin up every player.

Of course, but you can not argue a present point from a position of hindsight. Potential is a personal capacity, based on variables both in the wider context of football but also very much on an individuals attributes-both mentally, technically and physically, as well as taking in to account what has been achieved at what age and the growth a player has already shown by adapting and learning and maturing.

Potential is hugely important, because without it you don't have the chance to hit the personal heights in relation to ability. Of course you can fail, but you need the potential in the first place to be in a position to succeed.

Am I missing something. The Jury is still out isn't it. It's not like he's even played 1 full 90 min game of prem football.

Unless you're judging the Jury comment with his previous success at Roma but that has no baring on how he will fare in the EPL
