Vid link of Lawro chatting about us for a minute, interspersed with a couple of training ground shots:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/t/tottenham_hotspur/8194124.stm

And I'll write it out for those that can't view/hear the vid at work:

"Tottenham under Harry, well, we read every day that he's buying X and he's selling Y and Z but what Harry does is he puts together good football teams.

"I think the great thing about Harry as well is that he buys lots of forwards, worries about where they play. I think we're looking now and we're thinking Crouch and Defoe might be the front two, maybe Robbie Keane in behind them, Palacios sitting in behind them as well, get the central defender part of the team sorted - I think Tottenham have got a real chance of finishing 5th or 6th I think they might push Manchester City.

"Thing with Harry as well is, he's managed that many games in the Premier League he knows what it takes to win games.

"Now, the thing about Tottenham historically is - always very good at home that's not changed under Harry but what will change is they will become difficult, more difficult to beat away from home. I think they'll pick up more points away from home and I think they'll have a better season than last season."

I actually think that Lawro's got that spot on. Incredible.

Except that we've already got the CB situation sorted thank you very much. And the chances of seeing Keane, Defoe and Crouch in the same starting 11 are small, especially with Keane as a sort of attacking midfielder as he suggests.

But apart from that Mrs. Lincoln...

It's almost like some people think you just ahve to find a place for Keane, I pray to god harry doesn't fall into this trap!

If Keane's playing better than other striking options then play him up front, if he isn't then leave him out! Don't try to accomodate him for the sake of it.

I think this is the most dangerous detail that has the potential to undermine our whole season.

Agreed. We shouldn't play him for the sake of it. Merit only!!!! I would like to keep our midfield strong and not employ him as an attacking mid just for the sake of it.

Modric---Jenas---Palacios---Lennon : This should be our midfield (not counting any possible future signings of course).

The only problem with playing all three would be that Lennon might have to be dropped to accomodate Keane but i could see it happening in games where width isn't working and we have to go a bit narrower.

However, Lennon could play behind the front two as well so either way its a good problem for Harry to have and it's always nice to have options available.

Lawro is pretty much stating the obvious, he's not exactly going out on a limb for us is he? If Harry replicates what he did last season we'll do better because we will probably have 16 points from 8 games this year. That would've given us 65 points and put us 5th, 2 points ahead of everton.

Agreed. We shouldn't play him for the sake of it. Merit only!!!!

Perhaps but the thing to remember is he needs to find form again and he will never find form unless he's playing. It's almost a case of writing a few games off. At the very least he should be starting games against lesser teams and probably against liverpool where he might be fired up.

Yeah exactly, make Keane earn his place in the team, just because he's our team captain it doesn't mean he has to play.

He should've mentioned Pav. But he's pretty much right there. Our away form will be important this season.

Yes, but in all his previews for the last 3-4 seasons he's been very positive about our prospects. There are some people who believe he's virulently anti-Spurs because he predicts we'll lose at Anfield or OT.

I predict that Pavlyuchenko will be a major success this season.

Hope he's right about the away form. Always been a problem for us, even in the season we nearly came 4th.
We need to limit the defeats at Stoke, Blackburn, Pompey, Bolton, Wigan, the promoted teams. Basically the teams we expect to be bottom half.
We're not going to pick up 3 points at all these places but just avoiding defeat is crucial; it breeds a stronger mentality.
Away record is the difference between mid table and being 'best of the rest'.
Always assuming our home form is good of course! I'd take a repeat of November onwards last year!! 0 defeats if I recall.

Thank goodness for that. I'd be worried if he didn't.
I sincerely hope our away form is better this season. We had fortress WHL last season. If we had managed to let in less goals away from home we would have picked up many more points. (To state the obvious).
It will be interesting to see how Harry chooses his strikers. If Pav can score goals like he did the other day, full of confidence, he could be like a new signing. I expect him to play Crouch and Defoe though, with Robbie sulking on the bench, alongside Pav. It's going to be interesting anyway. Roll on Sunday!

I agree because he scored in his last game. I am ignoring all of the other Prem games he was pants in.

Joking aside, I think he is very average Prem striker and good backup but I would not like him starting.

Too emotional when he has a few misses.

He was an exceptional international and Russian league striker. The problem is the English game is so different to continental football, except the Bundesliga, I guess. English football is quicker and theres less of a ground game. Russian football seldom sees the ball in the air, which compared to how we play at Tottenham (even in the golden years) is quite the contrast. On a slightly unrelated note, I was worried we'd sell Pav to Arsenal. He would be suited to their brand of football.

Yeah, come to think of it, I do remember a season when Keane was stuck on the bench for half the season while Defoe was scoring for fun. We almost nabbed fourth!

Without this turning into a Pavlyuchenko thread I think Redknapp has and will give him plenty of opportunities.
He suffered because he isn't the type of striker many believed he was. Also the major part of the puzzle ie Arshavin was never bought in. I, like a few others, had seen more of him than most and certainly more than just the Euro Championships. The Russian league is very technical and people
forget how different the Premiership is. Lets judge him by January

also, last year he was in a new team that was playing like relegation candidates at the start, changed manager after 8 games, and the whole "he's tired" thing. its unfair to judge based on last season alone, i hope he does well

back on topic, lawro, yeah

Lawro is always right....people just can't handle the truth. Even lpool fans call him a traitor but he is doing his job as a pundit and is always sceptical about lpool and rightly so.
