The way forward imo.

Balanced, creative and a real battling midfield.

People will say Modric is too lightweight for the middle but he can get stuck in and is more physical than people give him credit for, Palacios is there to hang back too and add muscle and Bale can also get stuck in and add support when Modric gets too forward.

If we have faith in this Midfield I think it can develop into something special. Imagine in 3-4 seasons time, will be a top top midfield.

For me it looks very similiar to Uniteds midfield around 99. They played

Beckham (Bale)---Keane (Palacios)---Scholes (Modric)--Giggs (Lennon)

Now Im not saying our lot are at that level but similiar styles of players and it worked a treat for ManUre.

Have faith Harry and it will be rewarded.

Still prefer having Modric out on the left and drifting in like Zidane did for Madrid and France.

Would prefer a stronger central pairing....

Could work.

It would need Nancy to stop being a bitch about his hair and find his form again.

I just think his confidence got knocked a bit last season and the injuries didnt help.

I think if he gets a good run of games we'll see the real Bale. He has all the necessary qualities and with more experience he will adapt to the physical nature of the league and toughen up.

Might take a while for the midfield to click but like I said I think it would reward the bit of faith.

It is obvious, to me that this is the ideal set up if we're playing 4-4-2.

The only drawback is Bale, if he finds his form again then it'd be an amazing midfield. At the current time though, I'd put Naughton in there or put him on the right and Lennon on the left.

I would too yawa but Im at a loss to think who that could be.

First off I dont think Jenas or Thudd (at least at the moment) are anywhere near the level of quality that we need to move forward.

Looking outside our current players I just cant see a realistic viable option that is a real upgrade on what we have.

I think we have what we need in the four I mentioned. They are a bit green and rough around the edges at the moment but I think they could grow into their respective roles and develop into something quite impressive.

True....i cant think of anyone either. Barry would have been perfect if you ask me, but now im not sure who.

VDV would be immense...but really cant see that happening.

The 4 you mentioned would work i think...but not against the more physical teams such as Blackburn.

The only time Bale would get stuck in is if he thought on of the opposition were trying to steal his hair-clips. I still think he is going to become a brilliant player, but toughness is not one of his qualities.

What I mean is he is not a Lennon/Gio-esque player....more of a midfielder than a winger if you like.

Remember his main position before he joined us was left back and the championship is quite physical. Ok I agree he's not exactly Vinnie Jones but I think he could share the workload in the middle and adapt well to Modric getting forward.

Gareth Bale is a witch! He is cursed! Haven't you been watching when plays for us. It has gone beyond a coincidence!

In principle this should be the best side

Only problem is Modric is light defensively at CM and Bale has yet to show the maturity to hold down a first team place

But as I said, in terms of ability I agree with you

Palacios and Jenas are still our best CM partnership. Neither try the audacious pass and both clatter players, Jenas more so when partnered with Wilson.

Modric is best suited for CM but with Palacios and Jenas having this ever growing partnership and Bale always failing to prove himself at LM I can't see anything past the obvious Lennon Palacios Jenas Modric midfield for a while. Also, don't change something that works.

modric has looked average to poo when playing central for us

So I take it neither of you saw our remarkable turnaround of form when Harry took over playing Modric in the middle?

And I take it you've not seen Modric playing the attacking central playmaker role extremely effectively for Croatia?

Thank fuck you aint picking the team!

I saw him having a great game against Stoke in the middle and otherwise being by far most effective in his LM role. The role he played more often than not for Dinamo. Yes he often does play in the middle for the national side but he is equally comfortable - perhaps even more so - on the left.

Fair enough, I wont disagree he looks good on the left - but to say he's 'average to poo' and 'defensively weak' in the middle shows about as much knowledge as the pages of the sun.

I know you didn't select me in the quotes but I agree, Modric is all around the better player than both Palacios and Jenas in the center, the thing is I think in the Prem and as a Partnership Palacios and Jenas make the better partnership, but then again I believe we NEED Luka in midfield as he creates so much it's unreal. Luka is really flexible due to his footballing brain. Such a good player to have.
