9 years ago Jesus fucking Christ.Really impressed today by him- even against City he looked our best player before we imploded.
His pace was destroying Evra and nearly created a goal or 2. How the fuck are Townsend and Lamela going to get in the team at the moment? Townsend will have to play on the left IMO and Lamela, well, I suppose it is just a good problem to have- I just don't see where he will get in at the moment- the midfield 3 played well which means that Lamela won't get a place behind Soldado either.
Back to Lennon- I really hope he somehow fulfils his potential- it was around this time last season he began to play well as well. I hope AVB keeps him in the team, we always seem to forget how valuable his pace is at times.
Maybe who knows, As a player early on I liked him although his end product wasn't always there. I just find it bizarre some of these same posters slagging Emerson off at every turn seem to only remember Lennons positive contributions and ignore all the negative shit he was very much involved in. Just proves my point that some are only interested in what happens during the 90 minutes of match time and just ignore everything else that goes on.
He was always best as at RM, not RW, and played most of his games there. We used to play 4-4-2 / 4-4-1-1, not with a front three.I think for the people discussing how fans of nowaday would react to Lennon - it was a different spurs side in a different time when he played. Our expectations were lower and wingers like Lennon didn't 'have' to contribute to goal and assist tallies like your modern wing forwards.
Lennon was a tactically useful player even if he were limited because he had raw pace and helped draw defenders and midfielders and give space to our players. At least that's how I viewed him.
My memory was that he was largerly popular at Tottenham and unpopular with the England fans. The guy won a player of the year award! `He didnt really look the same after his injuries, and as we now know, his well talked about mental health issues which could have been impacting at his time. Anyway... people were far too focused on giving Jenas stick back then!Without joining dots of actual posts i'd say if anything there's every chance that a fair few on Emersons back there were/would have been on Lennons back, he had is supporters but there was a lot of criticism for his end product whilst he was here. We've also had a couple of instances (including our current captain) where they've done a lot worse off the field than trying to get a manager fired (which lets be honest, happens quite often even if more subtly than what i'm reading about lennon and the gang here).
Cant claim to know much about his disruptive side but he was here for 9-10 years and was on the team sheet for most of that time i think it was probably more good than bad on the whole and wish him well, entourage or not.
Exactly so many games that the middle was all boxed in and the stratergy was little more then 'Give the ball to Lennon!'. Won us so many corners, scored little but scored in very big important matches. Usually winners!I think for the people discussing how fans of nowaday would react to Lennon - it was a different spurs side in a different time when he played. Don’t think he was unpopular with England fans. “All we are saaaying…is give pace a chance…”My memory was that he was largerly popular at Tottenham and unpopular with the England fans. The amount of stick Jenas gives other players as a commentator drives my nut in. Come on! Coming from you?
He was after a world cup. Where the whole team played poorly in 2010.Don’t think he was unpopular with England fans. “All we are saaaying…is give pace a chance…”
