fickle bunch, just a month ago everyone was saying his crossing and corners improved.

Some people were, and I didn't get it then either. I'm trying to stay out of this, but Lennon has been a massive disappointment for a long time. His almost complete disappearance from the England fold should only highlight this.

I kind of agree with this thread, but I don't see a problem with what he does. I don't think he's fast enough over a long distance. Jenas is, and is at least one of our fastest players over long distances, but playing on the wing isn't about being fast over long distances. Lennon's still quite fast over long distances, but it's all about agility and acceleration with him. He does what he does well though, so I'm not complaining at all.

Think the title of this thread would be more appropriately named Lennon/Jenas/Berbatov/Keane * delete as applicable, as Lennon's only fault, in line with those other players mentioned, is that he is inconsistent.

We've seen him be awesome, we've seen him be awful, and we've seen him be in between. Tonight he was in between, difficult for him to play at his best when he is marked by two opposition players as he was at times tonight, or when he gets given the ball when he is facing his own net, as also happened repeatedly.

He wasn't as good as he could be, but there's really only one player who always seems to do his best and that's Led. No doubt the others would too if they only played five games a season (no disrespect meant to our leader).

hope you are not including me in that 'everyone'. Been asking for ages what he brings to the team. He has not lived up to expectation and to say 'he was one of the reasons we won the carling cup' ( i know you did nt say that kendall) is bullcrap. I am finding it hard to remember the last good game he had where he turned the full back (or any other player fo rthat matter) inside out. One on on against a defender he can only go down the outside hoping that he is quicker than the defender to go past him.

His crossing is poor to say the least and even when he does shoot its lucky if its on target.

He burst onto the scene with promise and like i say has failed to live up to his early potential. I am not saying sell him and buy another right winger but maybe he could do with a spell out of the team. Lennon seems to be an automatic name on the team sheet for some reason.

Maybe a few games on the bench would freshen him up, i dont know. But he certainly needs to improve.

Oh for God sake.

I don't really know the posters on here and how good your footballing knowledge really is, but looking at tonight's game, surely you must have noticed there was no pace, no urgency, no direct speed play on show? Lennon is the only player on our team right now, with Jenas actually, who can actually get his foot on the ball and run, scare and beat his man and more. Yeah, he had a quiet and unproductive night tonight, and he needs to work on his final ball, but fuck me, get rid of Lennon? We'd be the slowest club in the country. What we need is more players like him.

Look at Arsenal and Man United, the top two teams in the country. Arsenal have Walcott, Adebayor, Eboue, Hleb, Rosicky, Clichy, Sagna, van Persie and Bendtner who are all pacey players who regularly make runs from deep, who can beat a man for pace easily and who run at the defence with intent as opposed to turning round and slowly playing it back or wide like our midfield do. United have Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Nani, Evra, Giggs, Anderson etc... all these are the same. They have good movement and aren't afraid to move the ball and move themselves with a bit of pace and direction. We have such a slow, patient build-up, we try and play silly balls through the middle which 99 times out of 100 are snuffed out and resort to playing it wide, back to full back, back to Robbo, punt up field and then lose the ball. We don't use the ball well enough, we don't move well enough or quick enough and we don't keep it at all well. Lennon is one of the very few players we have who can actually do this and you're giving him flak and wanting him out, whilst players like Malbranque, Chimbonda and Huddlestone are fine are they?

If you want to see a player not good enough, out of his depth and so, so fustrating, look no further than Steed Malbranque. Yeah, okay, he tackles back well, but that's normally after he's just given it away, and when he does win it back, he loses it again. He's no good for Spurs, yet you jump on Lennon's back?

Huddlestone's the same. Great passing range, of that there's no doubt, but the fat shit**** can't move, he can't keep the pace so he slows it down and we suffer because of it.

Just watch how fast the teams deemed to be better than us move it, how fast they all link up and move into space, and then watch us. It's strikingly overt, yet for years nothing has been done to rectify it. And then I read let's get rid of our fastest player!

Sorry but cant really remember Lennon consitently beating a man??, sorry maybe he try's at Faces

Sorry the difference is they can all pass the ball and i would imagine cross it.

I have been saying this for along time Lennon was fantastic in his first season and a half with us because people were scared of his pacec since then he has been worked out and has not blossomed and changed his game in any way, the result yes he may be quick but his has no final ball and cannot cross, which in my book makes him a hugh dissapoinment. As i have said befor he has improved his defending since Ramos has been there.
The whole midfield is not good enough.

Lennon has got a number of assits this season, probably third behind Berbs and Keane.

The problem is he cant do it all on his own. Where is the overlapping full back? Where is the simple one-two so he can get in behind their defence?

Everytime he gets the ball the rest of the team, and a lot of fans it seems, expect him to beat his man, or two as he is regularly doubled up on, then whip in a delicious ball. Watch any of the 'better' players mentionned in this thread, they always have men making runs off them, dragggin away markers. You double up on Ronaldo and he wont beat you, but he will make an easy pass to his full back or midfielder who is free to put in a ball of quality.

The reason why Lennon isnt running down the wing is because he knows he will have to do everything himself. Chimbonda needs to support him more. The central midfielders have to support him more. The whole team needs to offer more width so every player has mroe space

Lennon frustrates me sooooo much. He has no idea how to play to his strengths. He has great pace and can dribble well, I wouldn't say he has all that much flair but his ball control is very good, as was demonstrated on that recent Nike ad. His delivery is not so good(so why the hell does he take corners?).

The ball Taarabt played last night which Lennon left was exactly right. Lennon should be looking for those runs because no left back in the world is going to beat him to that ball. That way he doesn't have to worry about taking it round the left back, and he's free to charge into the box.

Instead he always seems to stand still and want the ball played into feet. :bang:

Please note, I rate Lennon and do not want to see him sold, I am just saying how I think he could improve his game.

You haven't had a good word to say about many players on this forum though. i just think your expectations of players is too high.

I thought he played well last night considering. He didn't see much of the ball but when he got he he always looked a threat and looked to beat his man. I don't understand how some of you can slaughter him like this?? He's one of our better players surely?? You wanna talk about bad distribution, well Jenas and O'Hara last night we're equally as poor if not, worse then Lennon imho. lennon can open defenses in the blink of an eye....and quite often does...give the guy a break ffs.

lennon is a good player - who sometimes goes wide - maybe he could do so on more occasions - but for example in the carling final he was a fair way in for his vital cross to hudd

what's all this with Lennon JJ Keane Berbs whoever being inconsistent - they are no more inconsistent than most attacking players in the prem - it goes with the territory you have good games bad games etc - it's normal - I could type out a list of 50 prem players who are 'inconsistent' probably a 100 if I wanted - ditto past spurs players

I just don't see it as a valid criticism of the above players

My friend your points are valid, but you are talking about 1 game, i am talking about a season and a half, is it any coincedence he is back in the u21?? Lennon has hugh talent but he is not blossoming in anyway into the player i like most was expecting, hand on heart do you think he is good enough for us to break into the top four??
