Can't believe they haven't signed anyone. If they didn't have Cabaye and Ben Afra I'd fancy them to finish bottom.

they did a good job hanging onto Cabaye. Think they do have a decent team...

May I present to the forum Newcastle's latest offering for mockery.

http://www.nufc.co.uk/articles/2013...pardew-summer-transfer-window_2281670_3446911

We are delighted to have brought Loic Remy to the club in this window and we believe he will form an exciting and effective partnership with Papiss Cisse.

Joe has worked hard on numerous targets, particularly an additional offensive player. However some of the options that were available within our financial means were not as good as the players we already had and there is no point bringing in new players unless they can improve us and take us forward.

We did the majority of our business in the January window, signing five excellent first team players.

With the strong squad we have we should all approach the season in a positive, optimistic frame of mind.

The management team at Newcastle are failing all the time with the team selection. That is their main problem. They have a good bunch of players, but they don't know how to field the best team. You will fail if you select the wrong team every week. To have 2 good players in a back four defence will conceed goals for you.

Have you ever posted the "right team"?

As the manager of Spurscommunity scouting, I just comfirm that the team they are using week in, week out, is not their best team. For me that is clear. I don't know about all of their injuries, but at least you need to make sure that you have exciting players in the squad when you are a Premier League club. As a whole, they don't have that. They have some, but that is not enough. I would point out the defence as the weakest link, but with a bit of analyze, they should know that players like Anita, Marveaux, Bigirimana and Sam Ameobi can play in different positions as well. Just because others say that a player is in a certain position, doesn't mean that he cannot be used in another position in your system....

Thanks, although I just wanted to know what your starting XI would look like.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/newcastle-transfer-news-joe-kinnear-2670971

Joe Kinnear thought he had spotted a special talent on a scouting trip to Birmingham – only to be told he was -already a NEWCASTLE player, writes Alan Oliver in the Sunday People.

Toon director of football Kinnear raved to City chiefs about midfielder Shane Ferguson during the club’s Capital One Cup tie against Swansea in September. But when he asked about signing him, Brum bosses thought he was winding them up – because Ferguson is on loan at St Andrews from Newcastle until the end of the season.

Newcastle chiefs and manager Alan Pardew, who saw his side beat Chelsea 2-0 yesterday, were said not to be aware of Kinnear’s blunder.

A City source told Sunday People Sport: “Ferguson had a particularly good game that night and Joe Kinnear told one of our officials he was interested in signing him.

“At first our guy thought he was joking but then he realised Kinnear did not know Ferguson was already a Newcastle player.”

The 22-year-old, who can play in midfield or at full-back, signed a five-year contract with Newcastle in 2011 but spent three months on loan at Birmingham last season.

Blues boss and former Toon star Lee Clark agreed a deal in July to take the Northern Ireland international back on loan until the end of this season.

His last Premier League appearance for Newcastle was last December in the 7-3 defeat at Arsenal.

pure comedy gold....just like their result yesterday!
The lad in question must be half decent though if he's been 'scouted' twice by them.....

Suffice to say kinnear must have the easiest job in football, that kind of scouting must warrant a six figure salary.....

New thread about Newcastle now? Where is the old one? Anyway... we cannot laugh at them either at the moment. Their French connections are starting to bear fruit now....
Still they need to understand that they should not play the likes of Williamson in defence. Anyhow, they are getting closer to understanding what their best team is. Still not totally understood it, though. To be fair, most managers in the Premier League and many other leagues get this wrong week in, week out.

To back up my own quote about managers not selecting their best team, I have a perfect example this evening.

Look at the starting lineups for both WBA and Aston Villa tonight.

This is clearly not their best team.

Look at WBA: They have Anelka and Anichebe on the bench. They go 2-0 up thanks to two goals by Shane Long. Fair enough, he is an average player. What do they do? They take off Sessegnon for Morrison in the 73rd minute. Clearly not a good substitution. What happens next? 76 min, it is 2-2.

Aston Villa clearly don't start with their best starting eleven. They go 2-0 down. Then the manager realise, ohh, I chose the wrong team. He makes three subs. This time he chooses the best available on the bench, but not the right players to go off. Still they manage to get back, as the players that come in are the best they have available.

This is the story for so many managers, and this is managers at the top level, like the Premier League. I say it again, and will continue to say it many times. A lot of the football people in the top flight should never be involved in football.
